When weather conditions place the safety of student transport at risk, we may suspend school bus services. Services may be suspended based on the following weather factors: Temperature at or below -40 C Wind-chill temperature at or below -50 C Visibility of less than 1 km Reports from bus drivers and/or county representatives that many rural roads are, or will soon be, impassable During poor weather, the final decision to send a child to the bus stop or to school rests with parents. Parents should ensure that students are dressed appropriately while travelling to and from school. Parents are responsible for seeking information regarding school closures or bus cancellations. Current bus status information is available online. In addition, the following radio stations will announce school and bus cancellations: Sturgeon Public School Division regulations can be referenced at the following link: http://www.sturgeon.ab.ca/documents/general/A%2013%20-%20TR%2002%20Inclement%20Weather.pdf From the Transportation Department: Winter is coming and with it the chance that the buses may not run on time or not at all. Sign up for our email alerts that lets you know when your child’s bus is running late or not running at all. The following link will take you to the Sturgeon Public School Division webpage that informs parents about the status of their children’s bus. http://www.sturgeon.ab.ca/Bus%20Status.php At the bottom of that page is a notice that reads Receive Transportation Update by Email. Select the bus number or numbers that your children ride on and then enter your email address. Once that is completed select the subscribe button. Parents/Guardians are asked to report an absence within 24 hours, please email the school at schattendance@sturgeon.ab.ca or call at 780-973-3301. On our school website you will see the icon shown here on the left, at the top of the page or under quick links you will see ”Report an Absence” please include the first and last name of the student, date and reason for absence.
