Keynote Speaker
                              ISABEL WILKERSON
Isabel Wilkerson, winner of the Pulitzer Prize
and the National Humanities Medal, is the
author of The New York Times bestsellers
The Warmth of Other Suns and Caste: The
Origins of Our Discontents. A gifted storyteller,
                              Wilkerson captivates audiences with the
universal human story of migration and
reinvention, as well as the unseen hierarchies
that have divided us as a nation, in order to
find a way to transcend them.

She has become an impassioned voice for
demonstrating how history can help us
understand ourselves, our country and our current era of upheaval. In her
writing, Wilkerson brings the invisible and the marginalized into the light
and into our hearts. In her lectures, she explores with authority the need to
reconcile America’s karmic racial inheritance — a notion she has expressed
in her widely-shared Op-Ed essays in The New York Times.

About the Destiny Award Luncheon
Destiny was created by Dr. Terry Flowers twenty one years ago to
acknowledge leader(s) who demonstrated exceptional work toward bridging
relationships between diverse communities. Their work exemplifies the
importance of embracing the belief in the oneness of humankind in which
the destiny of the world is linked.

This year, St. Philip’s School and Community Center virtually welcomes
you to their campus for the 21st Destiny Award Luncheon. This
interactive luncheon will contain a robust program bringing together the
community, donors, and guests to experience the vibrant ministry of this
South Dallas gem. Participants can expect themed presentations by our

About St. Philip’s
St. Philip’s began with the active interest of the Episcopal Diocese and
local African-American Episcopalians to start an Episcopal Church
in South Dallas in the late 1940s. In response to community needs,
the burgeoning church began offering youth programs. In 1959, a
gymnasium was added. Following a tragic traffic accident in 1967
which resulted in the death of a neighborhood toddler, a day care center
was added. Although the church waned, the School and Community
Center blossomed into a dynamic South Dallas institution that has
been transforming lives through the provision of effective programs
focused on Education, Hunger, Athletics, Senior Services and Youth
  Development for seven decades.

Since 1984, Dr. Terry J. Flowers has brought vision, hope and results
to St. Philip’s and to South Dallas. The construction of the main
campus building in 1987 was the first building permit granted in this
community since the 1960s. St. Philip’s has continued to expand our
School: increasing the size of the campus in 2002 and 2010, as well
as increasing the grade levels. Today, our School provides a rigorous
education to students from Pre-K2 to 6th grade (ages 2 to 12).

Our Community Center is the heart of the neighborhood. We work in
collaboration with other organizations to provide numerous services
needed by the citizens of South Dallas. Some of the services include
a free legal clinic, food pantry, senior citizens programming and the
largest and most diverse athletics program in the southern sector of
  Dallas.

St. Philip’s School and Community Center strives to provide the tools
South Dallas needs – an academically strong School and responsive
Community Center – to rise above the economic and social challenges
it faces. Our goal is for South Dallas and its citizens to have a safe,
  healthy and vibrant community.
