SASFAA Annual Conference – Virtual
It Takes A Village - Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators
WELCOME FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello SASFAA!
It is my honor to welcome you to the 58th annual SASFAA conference
and the FIRST to be held virtually! Our theme, It Takes a Village, applies
not only to our association but also to our personal work as Financial Aid
Administrators. This has been a challenging year in so many ways, as our
country has grappled with issues of social equality and a global
pandemic. Through perseverance, dedication, hard work by many, and
support from so many of you, we have been able to continue to offer
high quality training and fellowship opportunities to our members.
We want to celebrate the partnerships and collegiality that have carried
us through: you, our members; the professional development opportunities we provide (such as
the annual conference and the new aid officers workshop); our legislative advocacy efforts;
communications; the development of future leaders; and our fiscal integrity.
Theresa Mays, Leigh Ann Hussey, and the Conference Committee have done an outstanding job in
developing a program suited to all – new and seasoned financial aid professionals. The agenda is
packed full of sessions that will give you information on how to stay in compliance, as well as
resources and information to help you enhance your professional growth and development.
I am very excited about this year’s conference charity: PAGE Partnership for Appalachian Girls
Education. PAGE’s mission: to inspire, education, and empower girls in Appalachia. As a product of
one of the poorest regions of Appalachia, this charity is near to my heart. You will be given
multiple opportunities to contribute to this worthwhile organization.
Special thanks are also in order for the many colleagues who provide us with vendor and
sponsorship support, to all of you who agreed to participate in the conference as moderators or
presenters, and to anyone else who has helped in any way to make this conference a special
event. As the Beatles so famously sang, “I get by with a little help from my friends.” Although I will
miss the hugs, I look forward to seeing each and every one of you virtually!
Until we meet in person again,
Celena Tulloss
SASFAA President 2020-2021
It Takes A Village - Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators
Welcome from the
                   Conference Co-Chairs

SASFAA Friends,

What does a year of planning look like during quarentine? How do you pull off a conference
without ever seeing your venue? How do you have a conference committee who may have
never met put together a conference that is worthy of a SAFSAA experience?
With these questions and many more, our committee set out to make this the best, first-ever
SASFAA Virtual Conference! We hope that you take a look at this program and find a
session that assists in you gaining the expertise that you need in this ever changing chosen
career path. With our many presenters ranging from SASFAA members, special guests,
NASFAA, and all the way to the Feds; SASFAA has provided a training opportunity for all
levels of the financial aid professional in a virtual world.
As we navigate this new horizon, we know that ‘It Takes A Village’ and we are here to help
you. We have assigned moderators and tech moderators to help you along the way. If you
have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
We hope that you will find this conference the best yet and know that all of us can’t wait to
‘see’ you soon!

Sincerely,
Leigh Ann & Theresa

                    HOW TO ACCESS THE
                      CONFERENCE
SASFAA has chosen to use Zoom as our virtual platform.
If you do not have a Zoom© account, we encourage you to register for one as soon as possible to
ensure you have proper access to the platform. For first time users, Zoom© has provided a guide to
get started.
If you are the primary conference registrant for your institution or organization, you can access the
zoom links at 2021 Conference Session Links.
Please make sure that you are logged in to the SASFAA site in order to view these links. As you
prepare your calendar for the SASFAA Conference, it is important to note that all times are listed in
Eastern Standard Time.
It is also likely that you registered fellow colleagues for the SASFAA Conference. If there are other
members of your institution or organization registered for the SASFAA Conference, please share the
links with them. They will not be able to view the webpage, but you can copy/paste the links into an
email or other type of document of your choice. It is imperative that you only share with colleagues
who are paid registrants of the conference. We have almost 600 SASFAA friends registered for our
conference, and our concurrent breakout session rooms only hold 300 people each. If you share with
colleagues who are not registered then they will be taking spots from paid registrants. We trust that
each of you will only share with paid registrants! Please note that the general sessions will be able to
accommodate all paid registrants.
If you need technical assistance during the conference, please contact sasfaatech@gmail.com.
HOW TO ACCESS OUR
      SPONSORSHIP & NETWORKING
               AREA
Need a product? Software? Service? Someone to listen
to your trials and tribulations and offer a solution?

Come visit our sponsors on Remo!
We will be using Remo for our conference’s Sponsorship & Networking Area.
If you have a Remo account, you can login after selecting the provided links. If you do not have a Remo
account, creating one is easy. Simply go to https://live.remo.co/signup and follow the steps to create your
account. Entering your information is like creating a little business card for your avatar. For additional
information, you can watch this instructional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE3RKxJCXBM.
It is best to use Google Chrome (it is recommended that Mac users use Safari). The site works better when you
are not using your institutions VPN. Also, ensure you are accessing the link to the proper date and time. There
is a link for each separate day of the conference.
When you first join, you will be assigned to a table. If your microphone and camera are on, you will be able to
talk with everyone else at your table. To move to a different table, double-click on another chair that is open at
another table. There are five separate floors with 28 tables per floor. To move floors, just use the floor controls
on the left side of the screen.
Many of our tables are categorized for vendors, associations, and other topics. Feel free to visit any of them. To
see a complete listing of each table for every floor, you can use the Table Directory in the upper left area of the
                                                       screen.
Everyone will see your chats you enter unless you chat privately to a specific person.
Be sure to check out the links on the right and left side of the room for chances to explore and even win prizes.
The Sponsorship & Networking area will be open each day of the conference from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
CONFERENCE CHARITY

                                             Dear SASFAA,

Are you excited about the upcoming SASFAA Virtual Conference? I know I am – I will see you there!
This year we are supporting a charity in North Carolina due to our charity state rotation. President
Tulloss has chosen the non-profit PAGE, a partnership for Appalachian Girls’ Education.
https://pageprograms.com/about/our-story/

This wonderful organization was founded in 2010 in the community of Spring Creek, North
Carolina. The concept was to invest in high-quality education that empowers girls in their local
communities as well as globally. The end result – investing in future of the Appalachian region of
NC! As of today, PAGE serves 75 young women in middle school and high school.
We encourage you to donate to help PAGE’s mission: to inspire, educate, and empower girls in
Appalachia. You can visit the link below to discover ways you can help us support young women in
NC.

                          https://pageprograms.com/get-involved/

Your financial gifts can help in several ways. You can help support PAGE by donating funds to help
them with a summer literacy project, the college pathways program, farm to table lunches, or a photo
diary project.

I know this year things will be a bit different due to the virtual conference and the pandemic. Let’s
continue SASFAA’s tradition by supporting this worthy cause. SASFAA will continue to let you know
about ways you can help support PAGE throughout June 30, 2021.

Now, I have donated to this worthy cause. Won’t you join me in helping to empower young women
in North Carolina? Once you make your donation, please share this opportunity on social
media. SASFAA and Page thanks you for your support!

Thank you,
Amy Berrier

leading to increased levels of student debt and
increased levels of financial stress. This stress
can have negative effects on graduation rates
