Angelica Margherita MichelleLong Island Sound Cruise
Thursday, August 5th from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
All Aboard!
Take a staycation with friends and cruise around the Long Island Sound.
The Heritage Center has reserved a private tour with the Maritime
Aquarium. Revolutionary in design, this 64-foot all-aluminum catamaran
was launched in 2015 as the first research vessel in North America with
hybrid-electric propulsion. She runs virtually silently on electric power.
You are welcome to bring an out of town friend!
Our reservation will be rescheduled if weather prevents the boat
from launching
There is minimal handicap accessibility aboard. The ramp to the
vessel dock can have a 25% grade depending on the tides.
Parking is available at the Maritime Center Parking garage or use street
parking. We will meet at 1:15 PM at 4 North Water Street (at the
corner of Washington Street) a short walk from the Aquarium's Main
Entrance.
Cost is $25 per person; please register and pay with Michelle Stillman
to hold your spot. We are considering making a restaurant reservation in
the Sono area. Please let us know if you’d be interested in getting lunch
beforehand and we will make plans accordingly.Catfish, Local Band
Playing at Topstone Park, Redding
Thursday, July 8th, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Our dear friend Garner Lester’s band, Catfish, will be entertaining at
the Summer Acoustic Music Series at Topstone. This is a free, family
event, bring your own picnic. Catfish plays “Feel Good” music designed
for fun, happy times, and audience fit. They have a tight sound with calm
volume levels that playing as a trio provides. Original members Paul Van
Acker, bass and Garner Lester, guitar are excited to have Joe Sullivan,
an incredible rhythmical addition, join on drums and percussion. If the
weather is not cooperative, the concert may be moved inside to the
Redding Community Center or postponed; latest information will come
from Redding Parks and Recreation.
Opera Talk Returns!
Tuesday, August 10th, 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM
Come join Jean Schroeder as she prepares to
re-launch her Opera Talk program. We will
discuss upcoming programs for the fall, and listen
to some favorite selections from a variety of
operas. Many past participants have been eager
for it to re-start. New participants are also welcome to join in to enrich
their listening and understanding of opera. Coffee and refreshments will
be served, please call to reserve your spot.Massage and Acupuncture
As a reminder, Beth Dobsevage has returned for massage
and acupuncture treatments. Please contact her at (646)
263-4660 or email her at BDAcupuncture@gmail.com to
arrange an appointment on Mondays from 11:00 AM to 3:00
PM. Her rates for seniors are $20/20 minutes, $30/30 minutes and
$60/60 minutes.
Free books
If you are interested in taking any of the books that are in
the lounge, please let us know. We would like to have
them cleared out by July 23rd and will donate the
remainder to the Mark Twain Library Book Fair. We are refreshing the
lounge space and we are happy to have our seniors take what they like.
The Tag Sale was a Success!
Many of our participants were happy to get items to new,
happy homes. Some also lightened their load by
donating remaining items to Ridgefield Thrift Shop as well as ReStore
and Goodwill with the help of the National Charity League. It was so
much fun that we will likely do another sale, perhaps in the fall. If you are
interested in getting on our list, please contact us.
Tech to the Rescue
advice from Douglas Renfield-Miller
at GoodEnding
Technology is making it increasingly easy to safely age in place (e.g.
your own home). Technology can be used to combat isolation, reassure
family, provide remote support, and facilitate day-to-day living. There is a
growing industry dedicated to developing user-friendly technology for
seniors. Redding-based nonprofit GoodEnding, Inc.’s website provides
regularly updated information and links to articles covering a broad
range of technology solutions. To learn more, click HERE.Weekly Class Schedule

Monday, July 12th, 11:00 AM through Weston Senior Center
Evan Weiner, a journalist heads this talk. The lead up to the 2021
Olympics was unlike any other Olympics in history. The 2020 Tokyo
Summer Olympics was wiped out by the COVID19 pandemic and was
the first Olympics to be canceled since the 1940 and 1944 Games
because of World War II. The International Olympic Committee went to
extraordinary measures to make sure “The Games Must Go On.”
Political statements and the Olympics have gone on hand in hand since
1904. The Olympics is a global platform and people have seized that
moment. To register, email Wendy at wpetty@westonct.gov.
Declaration of Independence,
a History Lecture
Friday, July 16th, 1:00 PM via ZOOM through Weston Senior Center
Mark Albertson, historian, leads this talk. The United States Declaration
of Independence is the pronouncement adopted by the Second

independent sovereign states, no longer under British rule. With the
Declaration, these new states took a collective first step toward forming
the United States of America. The declaration was signed by
representatives from New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, Rhode
Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland,
