LLI at UNL Curiosity never retires - OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE - Osher ...
A Farewell Message from the Coordinator
Dear OLLI Members, Staff and Friends,
As many of you know, I have been planning on retiring in January 2021. That time
has nearly arrived, and so too, a new beginning for me, a new journey and a time for
    reflection and discovery.
Fifteen years ago, I was fortunate to join the staff of this new, struggling organization
called the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, or OLLI, with its mission to provide lifelong
learning opportunities for adults age 50 plus. While it was a new organization, it was a
very experienced organization, having evolved from the original SAGE program at the
University of Nebraska–Lincoln. I was soon pleased to discover that the organization came
with many dedicated members who believed in the value of lifelong learning and who were
willing to roll up their sleeves and go to work.
Since that time, it has been amazing to watch the OLLI program grow from 206 members
to a peak of 1,786 before the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been remarkable, awe-inspiring
and so energizing, and I am proud of everyone who has helped make OLLI at UNL a highly
respected organization with an outstanding reputation—one that has received recognition
from at the national level of the OLLI organization.
I want to say THANK YOU to all of OLLI’s members, to my coworkers in the OLLI office,
and to all of the instructors, professionals and experts who step up to teach and share their
knowledge and talents with others. I am also so grateful for the
support of the University, and the leadership and talented staff of
the College of Education and Human Sciences. OLLI at UNL has
truly become a strong community of like-minded people who
make up the heart of the organization. I have no doubt it will
remain strong and continue to make a difference.
My time with OLLI has truly been one of the most satisfying
experiences of my career. I’ve enjoyed the friendships, the
engagement, the laughter, and the memories. I believe
these are the most important things we take with us
as we move through the stages of our lives.
Soon I will be somewhere else during staff
meetings and planning meetings. As I launch
into the next adventure in my life and
discover who I will be in retirement, I will
remember everyone at OLLI with warm
thoughts. But my first venture is to
spend time with my family, especially my
    five grandchildren.
Thank you, again, all for the memories
    and fun over the years.

    Regards

    Dee Aguilar

What equipment do I need to get
started?
At the most basic level, all you need to use Zoom is a
telephone, such as a smartphone or landline. However,
if you have access to a computer or mobile device you
can use the full capabilities of Zoom.
The following equipment will enhance your experience
but is not necessary:
    • Web camera: A camera will increase your
connection with your instructor and your peers by
allowing you to see each other face-to-face. If you
do not have access to a web camera, you will still
be able to see the instructor.
    • Headset with a microphone: This will let you
hear and be heard more clearly. This does not
need to be fancy equipment, it can be the same as
the headphones you might use with your phone.
    • Charger: •.Charging your device during class will
ensure that you do not have an unexpected power
      outage interrupting your learning.
