               Meet Author Nathaniel Rich
Please join us for a virtual author visit with Nathaniel
                              Rich on Tuesday, August 10th, 7:00–8:00 p.m. He’ll
discuss his recent book Second Nature: Scenes from a
World Remade (Library Catalog / OverDrive).

Today, scientists race to reanimate extinct beasts, our
                              most essential ecosystems require monumental
engineering projects to survive, and chicken breasts
grow in test tubes. No rock, leaf, or cubic foot of air on
Earth has escaped humanity's clumsy signature. The
distinctions we grew up with,—between natural and artificial, dystopia and utopia,
science fiction and science fact—have blurred, losing all meaning.

In Second Nature, we meet ordinary people who make
desperate efforts to preserve their humanity in a world that
seems increasingly alien. Their stories—obsessive, intimate,
and deeply reported—help us understand our place in a
reality that resembles nothing human beings have known
                         before.

Nathaniel Rich is an author and writer-at-large for The New
York Times Magazine and a regular contributor to The
Atlantic, Harper’s, and The New York Review of Books. His
other books include Losing Earth: A Recent History. He is also the author of the
novels King Zeno Odds Against Tomorrow and The Mayor’s Tongue.

celebrate, we've put together a list of intriguing
titles for your enjoyment, and there are thousands
of other titles to choose from in our
                                   Libby/OverDrive and hoopla collections.

return of your pre-pandemic commute? Get our
free app, Libby, check out some audiobooks, and
the miles will fly by. They're also great for long
walks, folding laundry and other chores, or
lounging by the pool. We've got a wide variety of genres and incredible narrators,
including literary icons reading their own work, that guy who says "Alright, Alright,
Alright" and many other familiar voices: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tiffany Haddish,
Meryl Streep, David Oyelowo, Oprah, Bruce Springsteen, JB Smoove, Maggie
Gyllenhaal, and more. Have you heard? Alicia Keys narrates her memoir, RuPaul
philosophizes, Marisa Tomei reads Elena Ferrante, Benedict Cumberbatch
explores Kafka, Stanley Tucci performs Breakfast of Champions, Dustin Hoffman
brings Horton Hears a Who! to life, and weirdly, Burt Reynolds voices Moby Dick.
Chill with some mindfulness/meditation, try some self-help, solve a whodunit, or
travel to another planet. Audiobooks are amazing.
