                  Mirror Lake Families and Community,
As little as one month ago, who would have guessed our globe would be turned upside
down as we unite to overcome the impact of Covid-19? Who would have guessed Zoom
conferencing would elevate into the communication resource our scholars would rely on to
talk with their friends, classmates and teacher? Who would have guessed that families
would be called upon be partners in this work as we are today?
Despite these changes, I find great encouragement seeing our Mirror Lake families unite
and work together as we continue this unexpected journey. I am incredibly proud of the
work parents and families are doing setting up learning space and time for school. I am
thrilled to see our scholars adjust to new learning routines and expectations. I am
encouraged to see our teachers dive into new technologies such as Zoom to drive Remote
Learning practices. Closing schools did not enter any of our thoughts one month ago and
we all wish closing schools wasn’t a reality. However, I am proud to say Mirror Lake
Elementary is in this journey together and this period will pass.
Hopefully you’ve reviewed Superintendent Campbell’s memo sharing Federal Way Public
Schools are now moving into Remote Learning. In Dr. Campbell’s memo, these are steps we
will be implementing:
      1. Remote Learning in Federal Way Public Schools starts on Monday, April 20th.
      2. Weekly lessons and activities will be communicated by classroom teachers every
      Monday
      3. Teachers will utilize zoom meetings, Canvas, and emails to maintain closes
communication with their class and families. We will have meetings hosted by grade-
level for families with students in multiple grades.
      4. Teachers will offer online office hours and/or telephone feedback for students/
      families
      5. I (school Principal) will email/call on Fridays. You are welcome to email me if you
      have questions too at ndaniels@fwps.org

I do wish each Scholar, Staff Member, and Family member of our Mirror
Lake family to have health in the days to come. The staff of Mirror Lake
misses our kids and we miss doing what we are meant to do – to teach
and grow our kids.

Keep calm, be safe, and carry on,
Natalee Daniels Saber

                                             MEAL PROGRAM CHANGE
As a reminder, our meal program model will be shifting to provide 5 days’ worth of meals every Monday. This change will begin
                                                  Monday, April 27, 2020.

                                                     WHY THE CHANGE?
Reducing to a one-day meal pick-up schedule supports the governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order, saves on transportation
time and cost for families, and helps keep our community healthy and safe.

HOW WILL THE MEALS PROGRAM WORK?
Meal pickup will occur on Mondays only

One exception: Since Monday, May 25 is a holiday (Memorial Day), distribution will occur on Tuesday, May 26.

Parents may pick up a week’s worth of free meals (five breakfasts and five lunches) for their children.

New change from USDA: Parents may pick up for their children ages 18 or younger. Child does not need to be present.

All ten meals will be provided in two grocery bags to ease transportation.

The bags will come with a five-day menu to ensure the meals provide nourishment for all five days.
