to Frail Seniors in Nursing Homes and Community Hospitals
An Annual Initiative by In Partnership with
OUR STORY
In 2014, Singapore-based social enterprise ACE Seniors (ACES) put forth an ambitious
goal: to create a national movement of bringing National Day celebrations to 60 nursing
homes and community hospitals by 2030.
Since then, on select days in August, various locations across the island come alive with
the sights and sounds of the National Day Parade. The parade is imagined as a carnival,
where food and game booths of yesteryears line the halls, while familiar tunes fill the event
space with echoes of nostalgia. Our senior residents, staff, and volunteers alike are also
treated to various performances and live telecasts of the National Day parade.
Since our first celebration at Bright Vision Hospital in 2014, the national movement has
grown from strength to strength. From a single beneficiary in 2014 to 21 in 2019, our recent
celebrations were also graced by Members of Parliament and featured on local news
publications.
This year marks a vastly different celebration due to COVID-19. Large scale celebrations
are no longer a possibility given safe distancing measures, especially critical for one of
Singapore's most vulnerable demographic - our seniors confined in nursing homes.
Keeping the spirit of National Day alive during these challenging times, ACE Seniors is
raising funds for special care packs and a favourite hawker meal for each of 6,200 frail
seniors residing in 23 nursing homes and community hospitals.
As we enter the new normal, let us not forget our pioneer generation. Together, we can
shine love and a hopeful light in the darkest of days. Together, A Stronger Singapore.
About ACE Seniors
We are a Singapore-based social enterprise and interest group that offers a holistic approach
towards successful ageing and with peace of mind. We provide Singaporeans aged 50+ years with
tools, tips, skills and activities to be active, contributive and engaged.
OUR 2020 CELEBRATIONS
A Care Pack distributed to each of the 6,404 residents
across 23 nursing homes and community hospitals
Telecast National Day Parade celebration with cake cutting
to commemorate Singapore’s birthday
A specially curated National Day Parade meal prepared for
each resident
Distribution of official NDP 2020 funpack to each resident
Virtual programme of songs, greetings and creative
handywork / appreciation cards for residents
HOW YOU CAN VOLUNTEER
• Form a group of 5 to 10 volunteers with a leader to
communicate with ACES and the home
• Sponsor for the care pack at $5 each and/or special
meals at $6. The basic care pack items and meals will
be sourced by ACES for better price and standardisation
of the items
• Pack and deliver the care packs to the beneficiaries
• Deliver the special meals and birthday cake to the
beneficiaries
• Be on site to join in the NDP
celebration. More details to be advised
closer to the date (subject to the maximum
number of visitors/volunteers are allowed)
• Optional: Design a virtual show or prepare
handwritten cards/pictures or handicraft
work for the residents as a personal token
