On Separation Science - 16th International Symposium FINAL PROGRAM - Invitation to 16th ISSS
Welcome to Rome and the 16th International Symposium on
                        Separation Science
Recent Advancements in Chromatography and Capillary
                        Electromigration Techniques

On behalf of the Scientific and Organizing Committees and Symposium
Co-chairman Prof. Corrado Sarzanini, it is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 16th
International Symposium on Separation Science – New Advancements in Chromatography and
Capillary Electromigration Techniques. I am delighted to notice that our invitation to the 16th
ISSS has been accepted by more than 200 registered delegates, coming from 29 different
European, Asian, African and American countries, which clearly demonstrates the worldwide
interest of academia and industry for separation science.

The scientific program includes 56 oral communications in plenary and parallel sessions, 8 short
presentations of posters from podium and 122 poster communications, which constitute the
primary vehicle for scientific communications in the tradition of this symposium series. Posters
make the symposium a comprehensive site for face-to-face exchange of information and for
facilitating contact with practitioners and innovators in the different areas of separation science.

Plenary session V is in Memoriam of Prof. Csaba Horváth, the greater pioneer of HPLC, who
would have celebrated his 80th birthday this year. All lectures of this session are delivered by
separation scientists who had the privilege to work at Yale University with him.

The scientific program of the symposium is complemented by an attractive social program to
facilitate meeting friends and exchanging with colleagues, including welcome reception and
lunches that will be served in the Congress site. The high-light of the social program will
definitely be the visit to Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, followed by a raid by bus to
Janiculum (a hill in western Rome not comprised among the proverbial Seven Hills) to enjoy the
beautiful view of Rome at sunset. The view of san Peter and Rome by night will be enjoyed by the
terrace of Villa Aurelia where an evening of traditional Italian food will be held as the social
dinner.

I thank all persons who have made possible the organization of this Symposium, in particular all
sponsors and exhibitors for providing generous financial support and the members of the Scientific
Committee for having successfully promoted the 16th ISSS. Special thanks go to all colleagues
who have submitted excellent abstracts covering many areas of separation sciences, to the
Interdivisional Group of Separation Science of the Italian Chemical Society and all other
Organizing Partners, and to the members of the Organizing Committee for their valuable effort in
making the Symposium possible.

I wish all attendees of the 16th ISSS an intellectually stimulating and awarding meeting as well
as a pleasant and unforgettable time in Rome.

How to get to CNR Headquarters
The CNR Headquarters are in Piazzale Aldo Moro at walking distance from the main railway
station (Roma Termini), served by metro ("A" and "B" Lines) and several buses. You can take at
Termini Station bus number 310 and get off at Viale dell'Università. The entrance to the
Conference Halls is at Via dei Marrucini. Two train lines connect Fiumicino airport with Rome.
The Leonardo Express is a direct service from the airport to Roma Termini station. Ticket cost
€ 14.00, and the journey into Rome takes approximately 35 minutes. Trains run every 30 minutes
from 6.23 am to 11.23 pm (from Termini to Fiumicino 5.50 am to 10.52 pm). Alternatively the
FM1 regular rail service runs from the airport to either Fara Sabina or Orte, making central stops
at Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana, and Tiburtina stations. Tickets cost € 8.00, and the journey
takes approximately 45 minutes. Trains run approximately every 15 minutes (less often on
Sundays and public holidays). The bus line number 492 connects Tiburtina Station to CNR (get
off at Via dei Marrucini). If you want to use taxi from Fiumicino Airport you are strongly advised
to use white licensed taxi only.
                                                                                        CNR

Rome has an integrated public transport system, the tickets work on all metro, buses, trams and
city trains in the urban area. Regular tickets cost € 1 and are valid for 75 minutes from the
moment they are first stamped. Within those 75 minutes you are entitled to use one Metro
journey and any combination of buses and trams. Tickets are not on sale on buses, trams or trains.
You must buy tickets (biglietti) from tobacco shops (Tabacchi) recognizable by the "T" sign,
newsstands, and at metro stations.

helpful for the speakers to introduce themselves to the chair persons
before the session begins in order to reduces delay at the start of the
session and facilitate the smooth transfer from one speakers to the next.

Poster presentations Each poster board measures 100 cm high by 70 cm wide. Pushpins will be
available at the registration desk. Your poster number and poster session
will be e-mailed to you. If you do not receive an e-mail by August 31,
please check the final program at http://www16ISSSRome2010.it.
Authors must be in attendance during the hours listed in the final program.
Posters should be removed at the end of each poster session. The
                        poster sessions are scheduled for:

                        - Thursday, September 9 13.30 – 15.00

Poster from podium The presenting Author illustrates her/his poster in the lecture hall from
podium in 5 minutes plus 3 minutes for discussion, using few slides to
illustrating her/his work as it is presented in the poster. Poster from
podium presentations should be prepared as PowerPoint file saved on
USB sticks, as it is reported above for the oral communications. Speakers

Poster awards All posters presented at the 16th ISSS will be evaluated by an international
panel of scientists and valuable awards will be presented on Friday,
September 10 at the Poster Award Ceremony preceding the Closing
                        Remarks.

16th ISSS Proceedings All papers presented at the 16th ISSS, either as lecture or poster or poster
from podium, will be considered for publication in a special issue of
Chromatographia. You are cordially invited to submit your paper for
inclusion in this issue. Manuscripts are to be submitted online directly to
the Editor by October 15, following the instructions that are available in
                      the Chromatographia website http://www.editorialmanager.com/chro/
The submitted manuscript will be subjected to the usual process of peer
review. All registered delegates will receive a copy of the 16th ISSS
                      special issue free of charge.
