  Relocating to a new base and new city through the Brookfield IRP can be
  both exciting and daunting when the prospect of purchasing a new property and
  moving all of your belongings and family to a new city are involved.

        Go to the Brookfield website to seek information about
        the Canadian Federal Government Integrated Relocation
        Program. Brookfield is the current service provider for
        this program.
        Locate the Annual Posting Season (APS) Directives from
        the Canadian Armed Forces.
        It is here that you will discover how to register and
        proceed through the program, as well as some general
        information on exactly what benefits you are entitled to.
        Once you have received your posting message make an
        appointment with Brookfield. Now you will get more
        specific information on your entitlements and how to
        proceed.
        After your appointment, Brookfield will send a moving
        company representative to measure the amount of
        goods you will be transporting in your move.
        Schedule a house hunting trip to locate a property that
        you wish to purchase. The realtors in this guide are a great
        place to start as they are already BIG military supporters!

 The Home Buyers Plan (HBP) is a Canadian federal government program that helps Canadian residents buy a home
 for the first time. With the Home Buyers Plan you can take up to $25,000 out of your Registered Retirement Savings
 Plans (RRSPs) without having to pay taxes on the funds if you are buying your first home. If you buy a home with
 your spouse or another person you could both withdraw $25,000 under the plan. The plan can also be used to buy a
 home for a relative who is disabled, although the conditions are slightly different.

Home insurance TIPS
for first time buyers
Buying a home for the first time is a big decision. One of
the first and most important things to do after deciding
to purchase a home is to secure insurance. Here, Eric
Simtob, president of Restoration 1, gives three simple
tips new homeowners should know when deciding on
home insurance.

Shop around.
No two policies are identical, so do some research to find which
insurance policy works best for you. Ask questions such as: What
is my deductible? Are there claim limits, and if so, what are they?

Know what’s covered in your insurance policy.
Not all disasters that can happen are covered. For example, basic
home insurance policies often don’t cover damage caused by
sewage back-up, or only cover up to a specific amount. Sewage
damage can be extensive and can often result in the homeowner
having to pay for a portion of the repairs out-of-pocket. Take
the time to understand what’s covered.

Know your rights.
Homeowners always have the right to choose who works in
their home. Often after a flood or fire, insurance companies will
insist on sending their preferred contractors. This results in a
contractor who works for the insurance company and not you.
Research the people you want working on your home before
disaster strikes. Online resources such as homestars.ca are
available for you to find the best solution for your situation.
