May 22, 2021 1A Word of Thanks...
Come, Holy Spirit and continue to unveil your presence and grace to your people! By the Spirit, we have been
called and equipped for ministry. We offer our deepest gratitude and praise to God on this joyous day, and lift in
prayer those who continue to struggle due to this worldwide pandemic.
We thank Archbishop William E. Lori for his support and leadership. As we promised our respect and
obedience to you this day, we are eager to support your ministry in the care and evangelization of the people of
Baltimore. We extend our thanks also to Bishop Denis J. Madden, Bishop Adam J. Parker, and Bishop Bruce A.
Lewandowski, C.Ss.R. for their prayers and support.
We acknowledge our wives, for only with your love and unwavering support are we able to place our lives
before the altar and engage in ministry as deacons. We are grateful to our parents, our children, our siblings,
and all our family members and friends who have shared this journey with us.
We appreciate the many individuals who assisted us during our formation. We thank Rev. James Proffitt,
Director of Clergy Personnel, and Rev. Michael Foppiano, Director of Deacon Personnel as well as the
administrative staff, Anne Eder and Shuantae McCray. We are grateful to the Deacon Formation Team: Rev.
Michael S. Triplett, Deacon Lawrence G. Matheny, and Deacon Scott R. Lancaster, as well as Deacon Martin
Wolf and the many deacons who have been a part of our formation journey. We are indebted to Rev. Philip
J. Brown, P.S.S. President -Rector, St. Mary’s Seminary and University, Rev. Gladstone H. Stevens, P.S.S.,
O.SS.T., and the entire faculty who instructed us in academic formation. We are grateful for the countless hours
of instruction and encouragement from our spiritual directors, our supervisors and pastors, and the parishioners
and staff of the parishes and institutions with whom we ministered.
We extend our gratitude to Rev. Msgr. Richard Woy, Rector of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, Rev. Kevin
Ewing, Associate Pastor, and its sacristans and staff, for their hospitality. We thank those who contributed to
the beauty of this liturgy under the guidance of Rev. Louis Bianco and Julie Grace Males, Director of the Office
of Divine Worship, as well as the deacons, MCs, servers, musicians and singers. We recognize the Deacon Class
of 2023 for their assistance at this celebration as we offer our friendship, prayers, and support as they continue
in formation.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who prayed for us during these years of formation. Your prayers sustained us
and supplied many graces, which made this celebration possible.
May the peace of the Lord be with you always.

Entrance Song | Canto de Entrada Laudate, Laudate Dominum
Christopher Walker
Greeting | Saludo
Penitential Act | Acto Penitencial | Kyrie
All: I confess to Almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
All strike their breast three times during the following two lines:
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

4 Collect | Oración ColectaLiturgy of the Word | Liturgia de la Palabra
First Reading | Primera Lectura Acts 6:1-7b
(Proclaimed in Spanish)
As the number of disciples continued to grow, the Hellenists complained
against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily
distribution. So the Twelve called together the community of the disciples
and said, “It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table.
Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and
wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, whereas we shall devote ourselves
to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” The proposal was acceptable to the
whole community, so they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the Holy
Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of
Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles who
prayed and laid hands on them. The word of God continued to spread, and the
number of the disciples in Jerusalem increased greatly.

5Second Reading | Segunda Lectura 1 Pedro 4:7b-11
(Proclaimed in English)

6Gospel | Evangelio Juan 10:11-16
(Proclaimed in English)
Deacon: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Deacon: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
All: Glory to you, O Lord.
Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.

Hail, true Body,
born of the Virgin Mary,

in the trial of death.

Closing Song | Canto de Salida Go Make of All Disciples
Festival Anthem on ELLACOMBE
1. 'Go make of all disciples:' 2. 'Go make of all disciples:'
We hear the call, O Lord, Baptizing in the name
That comes from you, our Father, Of Father, Son, and Spirit'
In your eternal Word. From age to age the same.
Inspire our ways of learning We call each new disciple
Through earnest, fervent prayer, To follow you, O Lord,
And let our daily living Redeeming soul and body
Reveal you ev'rywhere. By water and the Word.
3. ‘Go make of all disciples:'
We at your feet would stay
Until each life's vocation
Shows forth your holy way.
We cultivate the nature
God plants in ev'ry heart,
Revealing in our witness
The Master Teacher's art.

Heavenly Father,
since the time of the Apostles
you have inspired the Church
to commission certain members
to assist in a special way
in the pastoral mission of Christ.
Bless the deacons and all other ordained
and non-ordained ministers
that they may be humble
and faith-inspired in their service.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
