Spinning
In this session, participants will explore indoor cycling and experience an energized, musical aerobic cardio group
workout. Although motivated by an instructor, participants may engage at their own pace throughout the workout.
No experience is necessary for this low impact session - participants should be free of injury and heart conditions.

Ways to Meditate: Moving
In moving meditation, we will begin with a gentle warm up and explore how we can meditate while moving. Using
simple movement, such as walking or arm movements, we will focus attention on various senses and experiences, calm
the nervous system and become more present. Come prepared with loose fitting clothing and an open mind. All levels
welcome — beginners to those with a daily practice.

Qigong for Health and Wellbeing
Sometimes referred to as Chinese yoga, Qigong is a mind/body/spirit integrative exercise.
‘Qi’ means vital energy and ‘gong’ means to work or exercise. Qigong is an energy gathering/nurturing exercise. In this
sampler class, you will learn some exercises that will increase your energy, and cultivate relaxation, tranquility, and

awareness. It can be done by persons of all ages and abilities and can be practiced anywhere at any time. Wear
comfortable clothing to move in and athletic shoes.

On-Body Hooping for Core Strength
Who knew those silly circles we played with as kids could have so much benefit for our grown-up bodies? Now we’re
spinning adult-sized hoops to strengthen our core and get all the benefits of protecting our back, improving our balance,
increasing our flexibility, and burning lots of calories. We’ll learn to hoop around the waist, and work some serious
muscles as we explore the techniques for moving the hoop up and down the body, from knees to chest. Discover an
exercise that you will love to do!

Adult CPR/AED Training and Certification
The American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac
and breathing emergencies. This program will teach the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an
injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. This program offers CPR and AED to meet
the various training needs of a diverse audience. This is a certification course with no cost to participants. Space is
limited.

Have you always wanted to learn American Sign Language? Do you already know basic signs and need to practice? Come
laugh and have fun as you learn and practice American Sign Language. Your Deaf instructor will introduce you to the
world of visual communication through a series of interactive activities. Prepare to be an active participant as you move
around the room using your new skills.
Each session in this 3-part series will include different signs and exercises. You can participate in any or all of the
sessions. No experience necessary.

Off-Body Hooping for Arm and Upper Body Strength
There’s a whole realm of hooping that has nothing to do with the waist, and it involves cool skills that are fun to do and
will dazzle your friends. We’ll use hand hoops to explore a bunch of moves that will tone and strengthen muscles in the
hands, arms, shoulders, and upper back. Increase flexibility, dexterity and strength, all while giving your brain a great
workout as it figures out how to do these moves with both sides of the body. Prepare to laugh and learn!

Salsa Dancing
Learn to Salsa, the way it is danced in clubs! Participants will learn beginner level basic footwork steps/patterns for salsa
dance, and will experience the role of the lead. No prior dance partner experience necessary. We will rotate partners in
class and most importantly, we will have fun!

Intro to Barre
A barre is a stationary handrail used extensively in ballet training. In this session, you will learn beginner barre exercises

In this session participants will be introduced to the concepts of ‘social intelligence’ and explore the ways these
concepts can enhance relationships and well-being at both work and home.

Have you ever wanted to try a Zumba® class but felt a little unsure? Well, Paula is back to break it down! Inspired by

principles and a breakdown of each dance-style. This class will give you the confidence to tackle any Zumba class
anywhere!

Knitting Circle
Knitting can reduce stress, encourage community, and even keep Alzheimer's at bay by activating new neural
pathways! Experienced knitters are encouraged to bring a work in progress, while novice knitters are encouraged to
bring themselves and the desire to learn a new skill. Needles and yarn will be provided.

Walking Meditation
Come learn about the benefits of mindfulness and practice by engaging in a walking meditation. Participants will be

Cake Decorating
Come and learn to decorate cupcakes and cakes like a pro! You'll learn how to write with icing, properly use a pastry
bag, and create classic cake decorations, such as roses and other flowers. No experience is required to participate.

Decorative Plate Crafting
Etching is fun and easy, and can add an artistic touch to any piece of glass. Participants in this session will learn how to
etch designs in glass using templates crafted from their own imagination! With this DIY technique you can create art for
yourself or design impressive gifts for your family and friends! Space is limited – please attend only one decorative
plate session to allow for increased participation.

Stretching and Mobility on the Job
Stretching at work can reduce fatigue by increasing blood flow and nutrients to your muscles. It can also prevent
muscle strain injuries and provide relief to your neck, shoulder, and other areas commonly susceptible to workplace
pain. In this session, we will gently warm our bodies and learn various stretches and low impact exercises that can be
done anywhere without any equipment!

It’s in the Bag: Upcycled Reusable Shopping Bags!
We only use them for a couple minutes, but it takes 450 years for a plastic bag to break down in the environment! Come
to this workshop and learn how to turn your old t-shirts into fun, functional, & fashionable reusable bags. Participants
may bring their own t-shirts or use those provided (sourced by donation). All supplies will be provided and participants
will leave with their own reusable bag!

Have you ever wondered how florists make such beautiful arrangements? Come learn to be your own florist by

Loving Kindness Meditation
This session will be a guided loving kindness meditation. Also called metta meditation, this practice involves
consciously wishing others and ourselves well to develop a sense of compassion. Come practice giving yourself a
mental break!

In addition to these organized session offerings, participants may attend the Wellness Fair to visit staff in the Resource Fair area,
utilize the Campus Recreation Center weight area (Level 2) and cardio decks, play pick-up basketball or badminton on the courts,
walk/jog/run on the track, get a massage, etc. The Campus Recreation Center serves as the event venue on Monday and Tuesday
ONLY (Campus Recreation Center will not be open to event participants on Wednesday). It is the participant’s responsibility to
manage event attendance and scheduling with their supervisor.

Participants must wear appropriate attire for chosen sessions – athletic attire (sneakers, workout pants and tops) is REQUIRED in
the Campus Recreation Center. It is recommended that participants bring and use a lock to secure personal items while
participating in activities at the Campus Recreation Center. Towels will be available at the Level 1 Equipment Checkout desk.

Event check-in on Monday and Tuesday requires a UMass ID (U-Card or housing badge). All participants will be required to sign a
liability waiver, which will be available at check-in on Monday/Tuesday. Participants on Wednesday will receive a waiver to sign
from the session facilitator or host.
