Disability access services
We aim to make the PACE an inclusive event within
an accessible environment and will do all we can to
support your requirements. If you have mobility access
requirements a member of the PACE team will be able
to help you plan your journeys between the
performance venues. If you have any queries or
difficulties with access during PACE, please let
our staff at the registration desk know.

Complementary activity
PACE isn’t just a week of amazing performances –
it’s a place to share ideas and best practice, to build
partnerships and to foster collaboration. It’s a time
to make new connections and to renew old ones.
To this end we’ve planned a whole host of
complementary activities around the shows to
make sure that you get the most out of your
time in Bloemfontein.

Soliidad is a solo dance performance, an abstract
journey of a traveler, the quest of an Emperor’s elegant
path to oblivion, a slavish imitation of a great monk’s
journey, conversing the narratives on the path to a
roaring, hissing torrent of oblivion.

Vincent Mantsoe is a South African born dancer,
choreographer, performer and teacher. He is a well-known
international artist. He trained in Johannesburg in 1990,
under the leadership of Sylvia Glasser, founder and artistic
director of Moving into Dance. Mr. Mantsoe is now based in
France where he created his company Association Noa,
which tours across the globe. Mr. Mantsoe's work is very
much rooted in South African culture, traditional
movements based on the Sangomas’ ritualistic process.
Mr. Mantsoe has won international and national
awards, and was honored in the Elysèe French
Government by president Français Holland, for a
project with local schools in France.

Singer, songwriter and cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson is
a rare exception to the rule that classical and
contemporary music cannot successfully co-exist. Her
striking vocals and unique cello playing style are both
enchanting and mesmerising

Graduating with a first from Trinity Laban School of Music
and the Manhattan School of Music, she has toured with
Anoushka Shankar, Courtney Pine, recorded with Akala and
composed for the London Symphony Orchestra. Winning
the acclaimed amateur night at the Apollo in Harlem,
gaining a MOBO award nomination and getting airplay on
BBC Radio 1 & BBC 1Xtra show a clear twist to her classical
arm. Able to straddle both worlds effortlessly because of
her musical prowess, non-compromising lyrics and ability
to deftly reinterpret songs on the cello, Ayanna is the
definition of eclectic soul.

“Bât-toi la refers to the dull rumor that creates the loss
of consciousness of the black man. The piece is a creation
which requires us to visualize our trajectory, to
determine ourselves to create this objective of wanting
to persevere a culture and a conscience, to prove our
determination to excel. We want to pass on power to the
African people through dance, which we believe is
literature in motion, but also a means of denunciation
and commitment.”
Cie new style is a multidisciplinary dance company
residing in the suburbs of Dakar. It was founded in
April 2010 and its ambition is to showcase African culture
and present a diversity of work ranging from contemporary
dance to urban dance. For the company dance is a
means of liberation and revelation. The Cie is made up
of 3 dancers with different styles, each having
professional careers. They include Clara Bajodo,
Romuald Brozolier and Patrick Acogny.

“This performance is inspired by Edward Nkoloso, the
guy that wanted to go to the moon from Zambia. The
show is inspired because though he was from a place
that didn't have resources, he dreamt and pushed
through with his ideas, only to be charged by the
president of Zambia, at the time Dr Kenneth Kaunda,
because of his popularity.”

Circus Zambia does social circus and educational
programs on HIV/AIDS and social inclusion. Both
workshops are ready to share with audiences.
Circus Zambia is a contemporary circus- a first of its
kind in Zambia. Circus Zambia equips young people
with circus, social-life skills, educational and job
opportunities. Circus Zambia was founded in 2015 by
young people who wanted to create a movement to make
change in their society. Circus Zambia now owns a three
hundred seater theatre and reaches over 5000 people
through interventions and performances in Zambia.

Rouh is a gestural interpretation of the liberating energy
source of creation. It ties and unties the real and the
unreal of spiritual space. A desire rooting to anchor
the adventure of life on a new spiritual horizon through
the dance of the Whirling Dervish. Rouh
(literally in depth), plunges us into the essence of life,
both divine and immortal.

Col'jam wants to promote cultural diversity and make it a
permanent necessity in Morocco, allowing greater
accessibility for all. It also seeks to highlight different
artistic trends, particularly contemporary dance associated
with street art, graphic art, visual art and music. Col'jam
promotes creation, dissemination and training. Its aim is to
leada professional team who explores the development of
experimental practice.

Dans, Mandela Dans! is a one-woman performance
danced to the significant speeches of Nelson Mandela
over decades of his prominence as a proponent of
democracy in South Africa. The work displays the
multifaceted interpretations of his words within the
context of national liberation and, as performed by a
White Female Body. However, it is also performed as the
undergirding of the liberation of humanity within the
richly nuanced interpretation of this term.

Dancer-psychologist, writer, mentor, specialist in the field
of dynamic transformation giving opportunities to unleash
what is invisible and intelligible in the human being, group
and organisation. Immersion is experience at the leading
edge of thought — the furthest extension of that thought.
It is the best tool with which we help ourselves away from
limited ways of seeing. You cannot bring the same stale
self to the world and expect the world to be new for you.
Philosophy and tools of creativity and wisdom evoke new
desires, a particular life force. This work is ancient and yet,
not been born, except at the moment of rapture.

Night/Light uses live music, video projection,
shadows, light-play and live performance to explore a
night in the life of a young girl trying to deal with racing
thoughts. It evokes moments when we feel alone:
afraid of the dark, experiencing changes and challenges
– unable to express ourselves. For 9-11 year olds caught
at a delicate time – between the expectations of growing
up and still haunted by childhood fears – this magical,
mysterious piece encourages children to listen to their
inner voice

Night/Light is Blank Canvas Kollective’s debut offering
for children and marks their move to being focused on
creating high quality work for young audiences. The idea
for Night/Light was born in an Assitej workshop around
creating work for Primary School Children.

Lest we forget... traces the paths of three characters:
a Nigerian man, a Jamaican man and a Ghanaian
grandmother and their involvement in WW1. Both men
volunteer and the grandmother watches as her grandson
is coerced into joining a war which they only have a
tenuous connection. The piece interlaces text and song,
image and sound and explores the soldiers' experiences
during WWI. Poignant is the way these protagonists had
no true understanding of what they were letting
themselves into. However their solid allegiance is to the
'crown' and the colonial lie that they were considered
British subjects and part of the 'Motherland'. To volunteer
fuels their personal ambition to discover the world and
also to escape from their own domesticities. The piece is
performed by a woman who enacts their journeys.

Oduwole trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama
as a classical singer, and worked in opera in key opera
houses in the UK and in music theatre projects in Belgium.
She acted as a workshop voice coach for socially-
considerate projects in Flanders and Belgium.

I'd had enough so I killed him is about Maya Angelou, a
woman who fought her whole life as an activist for black
women in America and is now mainly known as a writer
and poet. The piece is about a search for being, seeing
and wanting to be seen. A search for identity, security
and strength. A search for conviction and being judged.
In I'd had enough so I killed him Sherise washes off all
the dirt to get to her core - to make it visible. Powerful
and vulnerable. Condemnation and wanting to be judged.

The album entitled Foolproof was launched in March
2019 in N'Djamena, Chad and has had 250 legal
downloads to date. It's an album that speaks of hope and
realizing dreams. It is tinged with diverse musical genres
including a mixture of Chad rhythms such as Sai, Bayan,
the Ndo and Fanani associated with the ‘colors’ of the
rap style of the artist. Various social and political topics
are covered in the lyrics and songs.

Stev'NT (Tarpade Mianmarde) also known as
Tonton Le Blanc because of the success of one of his songs,
is a young rapper artist who made his name as an actor
representing the Association Jeunesse Anti-Cleavage
(AJAC). In 2002 he began the rap groups
Intifadah and Djaraa-B and by 2018, he was one of 19
finalists for the AfriMusic Song Contest, and won the
distinction of Annex Francophonie Awards, subsequently
awarded for the best French musical contribution.
