FISHING
Broken Bow is known around the country as a fishing mecca. The Glover
River offers great opportunities to land smallmouth bass, Broken Bow
Lake harbors largemouth of incredible sizes, and the Mountain Fork River
routinely allows great catches of walleye, spotted bass and brown trout.
Here’s a closer look at three amazing places to fish in Choctaw Country.

GLOVER RIVER

With a thriving, genetically pure population of
Ouachita-strain smallmouth, you’re likely to
pull out a few 1-to-3 pounders or even larger.
Don’t be surprised if you land the occasional
spotted or largemouth bass, as well.

BROKEN BOW LAKE

Cast your line into deeper waters at long points
extending out into the river, and you’ve got a
fairly strong chance of pulling out a largemouth
bass upwards of 14 lbs. Broken Bow Lake also
harbors both smallmouth and spotted bass
to keep the anglers guessing. Don’t forget
to take a moment after each cast to soak in
the natural beauty of this gorgeous place.

MOUNTAIN FORK RIVER

While the Upper Mountain Fork River is
great for bringing in smallmouth, spotted and
even largemouth bass, you just might hook
into the occasional white bass or walleye.
And if you cast-out near the Broken Bow
dam, you could even be having fresh trout for
dinner. Ranging from calm pools to deep areas
and aggressive rapids, Mountain Fork River
provides a wide variety of different fishing
opportunities and species with every cast.

                                                                           22
BIRDWATCHING
For some, it’s just a fun hobby. For others, it’s a great passion. Birdwatching has
captured the hearts of many nature lovers for centuries. The joy of locating,
identifying, photographing and chronicling our beautiful feathered friends is an
experience that’s often hard to match. Choctaw Country is proud to be home to
over 500 incredible bird species, all located on 7,800 acres of marshes, wetlands,
lakes and forests. Here’s where you can spend some time birdwatching alone,
with friends, or sharing the love of birdwatching with younger adventurers.

THE QUAINT AND THE QUIRKY

If you’re one of those who loves seeking out an area’s quaint and quirky
attractions – one stop you must make in Choctaw Country is “Circus City,
USA,” better known to the locals as Hugo. Since 1942, circuses such as the
Kelly Miller Circus and the Carson & Barnes Circus have made Hugo their
off-season home. Accordingly, Hugo has worked hard to maintain the spirit
of the Big Top throughout the off-season. Here are just a few quirks you can
