1.) Negative perceptions of patients with disability
are widespread among US physicians
by Massachusetts General Hospital
February 1, 2021
More than 80% of U.S. physicians reported that people with
significant disabilities have worse quality of life than nondisabled
people, an attitude that may contribute to health care disparities
among people with disability, according to recent research
published in the February issue of Health Affairs. The first-of-its-
kind study surveyed 714 practicing physicians from multiple
specialties and locations across the country about their attitudes
toward patients with disabilities. To read more, go to:

2.) So, you want a diverse workforce? Then truly
welcome people with disabilities
By Tova Sherman, Opinion Contributor
Feb 01, 2021
Is your organization disability confident?
By now, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has been in
place for over 35 years and roughly 62 million adults in the
United States live with a disability — that’s about one in four
people.
Yet how many of us can honestly say we are confident when it
comes to including persons with disabilities in our workplace
culture?
According to a report from the Return On Disability Group,
although 90 percent of companies claim to prioritize diversity,
only 4 percent consider disability in those initiatives. To continue

3.) New Standards In The Works For Postsecondary
Programs
by Michelle Diament
February 1, 2021
Work is underway to establish first-ever accreditation standards
for the hundreds of postsecondary programs across the nation
serving students with intellectual disabilities.
The programs at colleges and universities have proliferated in
recent years to number more than 300, but they vary widely in
their focus, length, level of campus integration and more. As a
result, families have little baseline to judge the quality of different
offerings, the cost of which can rival traditional college tuition. To

4.) White House Doubles Down On Accessibility
by Shaun Heasley
February 2, 2021
Online and in the briefing room, the Biden administration says it
is working to prioritize accessibility for people with disabilities.
With the inauguration of President Joe Biden last month, the
White House website got a revamp and that included a push to
increase accessibility. To continue reading, go to:

5.) Nike’s New Hands-Free Sneaker Is Being Called
a Win for Disability Design
By Colleen Murphy
February 02, 2021
Nike introduced its first-ever hands-free sneaker, the Nike GO
FlyEase, on February 1, and its origin can be traced back nearly a
decade to when a boy with cerebral palsy wrote a letter to the
company.
Matthew Walzer, now 25, was born two months premature,
weighing only two pounds, 14 ounces. His lungs were not fully
developed, and so his brain did not receive enough oxygen. This
lack of oxygen led to brain injury that resulted in cerebral palsy, a
group of disorders that affect a person's movement, balance, and
posture, according to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention. To read more, go to:

8.) Airlines adjust mask policies to meet latest CDC
guidelines for passengers with disabilities
By Michael Hollan | Fox News
February 4, 2021

Airlines are adjusting their mask policies to align with a recent
government mandate — but in some cases, those policies might
be becoming less strict.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, major airlines began instituting
their own policies for enforcing the wearing of face masks on their
planes. While some airlines have allowed passengers with medical
conditions to go mask-free, others mandated that everyone over
the age of 2 must wear a mask. To continue reading, go to:
