PRAYERS IN TIME OF EPIDEMIC AND PLAGUE

                  (Adapted from the Roman Ritual)

All stand as the following antiphon is said:

Antiphon: Rise up, O Lord, and come to our assistance,
and deliver us for your name’s sake.

Psalm 44:1

We have heard, O God, with our own ears
the things which our forefathers have told us.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit

As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

Antiphon: Rise up, O Lord, and come to our assistance,
and deliver us for your name’s sake.

On the Day of Judgment, Lord, save your people.
Be merciful to us sinners, Lord, hear our prayer.
That you will spare us, Lord, hear our prayer.

Son of the Living God, Lord, hear our prayer.

                                8
Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world,
spare us, O Lord!
Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, graciously
hear us, O Lord!
Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us, O Lord!

Christ, hear us, Christ, graciously hear us.
Lord Jesus, hear our prayer, Lord Jesus, hear our prayer.
Lord, have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, have mercy on us, Christ, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us.

                                 9
Psalm 6
              Prayers for Recovery from Grave Illness
Lord, do not reprove me in your anger;
  punish me not in your rage.
Have mercy on me, Lord, I have no strength;
  Lord, heal me, my body is racked;
my soul is racked with pain.
But you, O Lord how long?
  Return, Lord, rescue my soul.

Save me in your merciful love;
for in death no one remembers you;
from the grave, who can give you praise?

I am exhausted with my groaning;
   every night I drench my pillow with tears;
I bedew my bed with weeping.
   My eye wastes away with grief;
I have grown old surrounded by my foes.

Leave me, all you who do evil;
  for the Lord has heard my weeping.
The Lord has heard my plea;
  The Lord will accept my prayer.
All my foes will retire in confusion,
  foiled and suddenly confounded

Glory be to the father and to the Son
  and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning,
   is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

                                10
After the psalm the presider continues:

P: God is our refuge and our strength.
All: A helper in all tribulations.

P: Lord, save your servants.
All: Who trust in you, my God.

P: O Holy God! O Mighty One! O Holy Immortal
All: Have mercy on us.

P: Help us, O God, our Saviour.
All: And deliver us, O Lord, for the glory of your name.

P: Lord, hear our prayer.
All: And let our cry come before you.

Let us pray. Hear us, O God, our Saviour, and by the prayers
of glorious ever-Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our Mother
and of all the saints, deliver your people from the time of this
pandemic of the novel coronavirus, and in your bounty let
them feel certain of your mercy.

Lord, mercifully heed our supplications, and heal our
infirmities of body and soul; so that knowing your forgiveness
we may ever rejoice in your blessing. We beg you, Lord, to hear
our sincere pleas, and graciously to avert this plague which
afflicts people of our community, diocese, nation and the
world, through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
Other Psalms may be used.

                                  11
Psalm 69
             Prayer for Deliverance from Persecution.
Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good;
 according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.
Do not hide your face from your servant,
 for I am in distress—make haste to answer me.
Draw near to me, redeem me,
 set me free because of my enemies.
You know the insults I receive,
   and my shame and dishonour;
   my foes are all known to you.
Insults have broken my heart,
   so that I am in despair.
I looked for pity, but there was none;
   and for comforters, but I found none.
They gave me poison for food,
   and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
I will praise the name of God with a song;
  I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
This will please the Lord more than an ox
  or a bull with horns and hoofs.
Let the oppressed see it and be glad;
  you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
For the Lord hears the needy,
  and does not despise his own that are in bonds.
Glory be to the father and to the Son
  and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning,
  is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

                                12
Psalm 19
                       Prayer for Victory.

The LORD answer you in the day of trouble!
 The name of the God of Jacob protect you!
May he send you help from the sanctuary,
 and give you support from Zion.
May he remember all your offerings,
 and regard with favour your burnt sacrifices.
May he grant you your heart’s desire,
 and fulfill all your plans.

May we shout for joy over your victory,
 and in the name of our God set up our banners.
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.

Now I know that the LORD will help his anointed;
  he will answer him from his holy heaven
  with mighty victories by his right hand.
Some take pride in chariots, and some in horses,
  but our pride is in the name of the LORD our God.
They will collapse and fall,
  but we shall rise and stand upright.
Give victory to the king, O LORD;
  answer us when we call.

Glory be to the father and to the Son
  and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning,
  is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

                               13
Psalm 90
                  Assurance of God’s Protection.

You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
  who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,
will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress;
  my God, in whom I trust.”

For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
  and from the deadly pestilence;
he will cover you with his pinions,
  and under his wings you will find refuge;
  his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

You will not fear the terror of the night,
  or the arrow that flies by day,
or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
  or the destruction that wastes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
  ten thousand at your right hand,
  but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
  and see the punishment of the wicked.

Because you have made the LORD your refuge,
  the Most High your dwelling place,
no evil shall befall you,
  no scourge come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you
  to guard you in all your ways.
On their hands they will bear you up,
  so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
                                14
You will tread on the lion and the adder,
  the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.
Those who love me, I will deliver;
  I will protect those who know my name.
When they call to me, I will answer them;
  I will be with them in trouble,
  I will rescue them and honour them.

With long life I will satisfy them,
 and show them my salvation.

Glory be to the father and to the Son
  and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning,
  is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

                                15
PRAYER TO OUR LORD FOR THE GRACE OF
           HEALING AND PROTECTION

God Father, Creator of the world, almighty and merciful, who
for the love of us sent your Son to the world as a doctor of
souls and bodies, look at your children who, in this difficult
moment of uncertainty and fear in the whole world, turn to
You, seeking strength, salvation and consolation.

Free us from disease and fear, heal our sick people, comfort
their families, give wisdom to the rulers, energy and strength of
doctors, nurses and volunteers, eternal life of the dead.

Do not leave us at the time of trial, but free us us from all evil.
We ask you who live and reign with the Son and the Holy
Spirit forever. Amen.

Mary, Healer of the Sick and Mother of Hope, pray for us! "

ORATIO IMPERATA AGAINST THE COVID-19

God our Father, we come to You in our need to ask Your
protection against the coronavirus that has claimed lives and
has affected many.

We pray for Your grace for the people tasked with studying the
nature and cause of this virus and its disease and of stemming
the tide of its transmission.

Guide the hands and minds of medical experts that they may
minister to the sick with competence and compassion and of
those governments and private agencies that must find cure
and solution to this epidemic.

We pray for those afflicted. May they be restored to health
soon. Grant us the grace to work for the good of all and to
help those in need.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son who lives
and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God
forever and ever. Amen.

                              17
PRAYER TO JESUS CHRIST
                AGAINST THE COVID-19

Lord Jesus Christ, you travelled through towns and villages
curing every disease and illness. At your command, the sick
were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the
global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your
healing love.

Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their
health and strength. Heal us from our fear, which prevents
neighbours from helping one another. Heal us from our pride,
which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that
knows no borders.

Good Lord, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of
uncertainty and sorrow. May those who have died from the
virus rest in peace and rise in glory. Be with the families of
those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve,
defend them from illness and despair.

Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical
professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and
who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your
protection and peace.

Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to
act with prudence and charity for the well-being of the people
they are meant to serve. Stay with us, Lord, and grant us your
peace. Amen.

                              18
POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER TO MOTHER MARY,
     HEALTH OF THE SICK AGAINST COVID-19
  Pope Francis composed a prayer to Our Lady, Health of the Sick, to
   implore her protection during the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

O Mary,
you shine continuously on our journey
as a sign of salvation and hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick.
At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain,
with steadfast faith.
You, Salvation of the Roman People
and of all People, know what we need.
We are certain that you will provide,
so that, as you did at Cana of Galilee,
joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform ourselves to the Father’s will
and to do what Jesus tells us:
He who took our sufferings upon Himself,
and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross,
to the joy of His Resurrection. Amen.

                                  19
We seek refuge under your protection,
O Holy Mother of God.
Do not despise our pleas,
we who are put to the test,
and deliver us from every danger,
O glorious and blessed Virgin.
        A SOLEMN ACT OF CONSECRATION
       TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY
                        by Pope Pius XII
Most Holy Virgin Mary, tender Mother of men, to fulfill the
desires of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the request of the
Vicar of Your Son on earth, we consecrate ourselves and our
families to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart,
O Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and we recommend to
You, all the people of our country and all the world.
Please accept our consecration, dearest Mother, and use us as
You wish to accomplish Your designs in the world.
O Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of the
Most Holy Rosary, and Queen of the World, rule over us,
together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, Our King.
Save us from the spreading flood of modern paganism; kindle
in our hearts and homes the love of purity, the practice of a
virtuous life, an ardent zeal for souls, and a desire to pray the
Rosary more faithfully.
We come with confidence to You, O Throne of Grace and
Mother of Fair Love. Inflame us with the same Divine Fire
which has inflamed Your own Sorrowful and Immaculate
Heart. Make our hearts and homes Your shrine, and through
us, make the Heart of Jesus, together with your rule, triumph
in every heart and home. Amen.
                               20
POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH FOR HELP
     DURING THE COVID-19 GLOBAL CRISIS

We are praying together, entrusting ourselves to the intercession of St.
Joseph, Guardian of the Holy Family, Guardian of all our families.
Even the carpenter of Nazareth knew the precariousness and
bitterness. Though he worried about the future, he knew how to walk
the darkness of certain moments, always letting himself be guided by
God’s will without reservation. -Pope Francis, March 18, 2020

                    PRAYER TO ST JOSEPH

Protect, O Holy Guardian, our nation.
Enlighten those responsible for the common good, so that
they might know — like you do — how to care for those
entrusted to their responsibility.
Grant intelligence of knowledge to those seeking adequate
means for the health and physical well-being of their brothers
and sisters.
Sustain those who are spending themselves for those in need,
even at the cost of their own safety: volunteers, nurses, doctors
who are on the front lines in curing the sick.
Bless, O St Joseph, the Church: beginning with her ministers,
make her the sign and instrument of your light and your
goodness.
Accompany, O St Joseph, our families: with your prayerful
silence, create harmony between parents and their children, in
a special way with the youngest.
Preserve the elderly from loneliness: grant that no one might
be left in desperation from abandonment and discouragement.

                                   21
Comfort those who are the most frail, encourage those who
falter, intercede for the poor. With the Virgin Mother, beg the
Lord to liberate the world from every form of pandemic.
Amen.

                              22
ACT OF CONSECRATION TO ST. JOSEPH

O Glorious Patriarch and Patron of the Catholic Church! O
Virgin Spouse of God, and guardian and foster father of the
Incarnate Word! In the presence of Jesus and Mary, I choose
you this day to be my guardian and father.

You whom God has constituted Head of the Holy Family,
accept me, I beseech you, though utterly unworthy, to be a
poor little servant in thy holy house. Present me to thy
Immaculate Spouse; ask her also to accept me as a servant and
to adopt me as a child. With her, teach me, you who are a
master of the interior life, how to converse constantly with
Jesus and how to serve Him faithfully in all things to the end
of my life.

To you custody was committed the Living Bread of Heaven, to
be dispensed to your starving brethren, with Mary help me to
prepare the poor stable of my heart to receive, worthily and
often, the Bread of my salvation. Let me receive it from thy
hands and from those of Mary, as often as I approach the Holy
Table.

O my tender and watchful father, I hereby consecrate myself to
you; and I firmly purpose and resolve never to leave you, and
never to say or do anything, nor to suffer anyone under my
charge to say or do anything, against thy honour!

You were the head of the house of God upon earth, in faithful
imitation of Jesus and Mary, I place myself and all my concerns
under your care and protection.

                              23
To you, after Jesus and Mary, I consecrate my body and soul
my spiritual progress, my home during the time of the
coronavirus.

Forsake me not, but adopt me as a servant and a child of the
Holy Family. Watch over me at all times, but especially in the
last awful hour of my life on earth: then visit, console, and
strengthen me with Jesus and Mary, that with them and you I
may sing the praises of the adorable Trinity for all eternity.
Amen.

         PRAYER TO THE GUARDIAN ANGEL
                 OF AUSTRALIA

O Glorious Guardian Angel of Australia, to whom God has
entrusted the care of our beloved country, we honour you and
thank you for the care and protection you have given to this
great nation from the first moment of its inception.

O Powerful Guardian Angel, whose watchful glance embrace
over this vast land from shore to shore, we know that our sins
have grieved you and spoiled the beauty of our heritage. Lead
us to a deep conversion, so that we may return to the embrace
of God’s merciful love!

O Holy Angel, obtain for us through the intercession of the
Queen of Angels, Heaven and Earth before the throne of God
the graces we need to overcome the forces of evil so
widespread in our beloved land this time.

                              24
Help us, our God-given protector and friend, to respond
wholeheartedly to the urgent pleas of the Mother of God at
Fatima. Assist us to offer the prayers and sacrifices necessary to
bring peace and goodness to our nation, especially during the
time of the pandemic of coronavirus.

We want to make you known and loved throughout our land,
so that obedient to your inspirations we may know, love and
serve our Lord more faithfully and so become more "one
Nation under one God"! Amen.

                                25
PRAYER TO THE GUARDIAN ANGEL

Loving God, you are so good that you gave me a Guardian
Angel to protect my body and my soul. Help me to know and
follow my angel so that, with their guidance, I will be worthy
of being in Heaven with You!

My sweet Guardian Angel, you are my guide every day of my
life. Direct me on my path in life and faith so that I may be
holy and good like you. Show me the way to be the person that
God is calling me to be.

Keep me from danger, both spiritual and physical especially
during the time of the pandemic of coronavirus. You are with
me all the time so you already know these my intentions that I
ask you to deliver to the Lord.

My guardian angel, my guide, directs me!
