“Self-righteousness and self-sufficiency are the darlings
 of nature, which she preserves as her life. That makes
Christ seem ugly to nature. Nature cannot desire Him.
He is just opposite to all nature’s glorious interests. Let
 nature but make a gospel, and it would make it quite
contrary to Christ; it would be to the just, the innocent,
 the holy, etc. Christ makes the gospel for you, that is,
     for needy sinners, the needy, the ungodly, the
               unrighteous, the accursed.”

                            From 1 Chronicles 29:10-13

                   Minister: Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel
                   our father, forever and ever.
                   People: Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and
                   the power and the glory and the victory and the
                   majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the
                   earth is yours.
                   Minister: Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you
                   are exalted as head above all.
                   People: Both riches and honor come from you,
                   and you rule over all
                   Minster: In your hand are power and might,
                   People: and in your hand it is to make great
                   and to give strength to all.
                   All: And now we thank you, our God, and
                   praise your Glorious Name!!

                            A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
                            Our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing.
                            For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
                            His craft and pow’r are great;
                            and armed with cruel hate,
                            On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing;
Were not the right man on our side,
the man of God’s own choosing.
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he,
Lord Sabboth his name,
From age to age the same, and he must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed
his truth to triumph through us.
The prince of darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
For lo! His doom is sure; one little word shall fell him.

That Word above all earthly pow’rs,
no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
through him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
the body they may kill;
God’s truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever.

                         Leader: Because Christ Jesus died in your place,
                         for your sins, you are forgiven.

                         “Nothing but the Blood”

                         What can wash away my sin?
                         Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
                         What can make me whole again?
                         Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
                         O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow;
                         No other fount I know,
                         nothing but the blood of Jesus.

                         For my cleansing this I see—
                         nothing but the blood of Jesus;
                         For my pardon this my plea—
                         nothing but the blood of Jesus.
                         O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow;
                         No other fount I know,

Nothing can for sin atone—
nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done—
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,

This is all my hope and peace—
nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness—
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Now by this I’ll overcome—
nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Now by this I’ll reach my home—
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

                   SERMON TEXT

                         Exodus 11:1; 4-10
                         1 The Lord said to Moses, “Yet one plague
                         more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon
                         Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here.
                         When he lets you go, he will drive you away
                         completely.

                         4 So Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About
                         midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt,
                         5 and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall
                         die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on
                         his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl
                         who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn
                         of the cattle. 6 There shall be a great cry
                         throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there
                         has never been, nor ever will be again. 7 But not
                         a dog shall growl against any of the people of
                         Israel, either man or beast, that you may know
                         that the Lord makes a distinction between
                         Egypt and Israel.’ 8 And all these your servants
                         shall come down to me and bow down to me,
                         saying, ‘Get out, you and all the people who
                         follow you.’ And after that I will go out.” And
                         he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger. 9 Then
                         the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen
                         to you, that my wonders may be multiplied in
                         the land of Egypt.”
COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH         6

                                                                JULY 26, 2020
        10 Moses and Aaron did all these wonders
        before Pharaoh, and the Lord hardened
        Pharaoh’sheart, and he did not let the people of
        Israel go out of his land.

        Exodus 12:21-23
        21 Then Moses called all the elders of Israel
        and said to them, “Go and select lambs for
        yourselves according to your clans, and kill the
        Passover lamb. 22 Take a bunch of hyssop and
        dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch
        the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood
        that is in the basin. None of you shall go out of
        the door of his house until the morning. 23 For
        the Lord will pass through to strike the
        Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on
        the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord
        will pass over the door and will not allow the
        destroyer to enter your houses to strike you.

        Exodus 12:29-34
        29 At midnight the Lord struck down all the
        firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the
        firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to
        the firstborn of the captive who was in the
        dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock.

                         30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he and all
                         his servants and all the Egyptians. And there
                         was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a
                         house where someone was not dead. 31 Then
                         he summoned Moses and Aaron by night and
                         said, “Up, go out from among my people, both
                         you and the people of Israel; and go, serve the
                         Lord, as you have said. 32 Take your flocks and
                         your herds, as you have said, and be gone, and
                         bless me also!”

                         33 The Egyptians were urgent with the people
                         to send them out of the land in haste. For they
                         said, “We shall all be dead.” 34 So the people
                         took their dough before it was leavened, their
                         kneading bowls being bound up in their cloaks
                         on their shoulders.

                         Leader: This is the word of the LORD.

                      The Lord’s Prayer

                        Our Father who art in heaven,
                        Hallowed be Thy name.
                        Thy kingdom come,

                        on earth, as it is in heaven.
                        Give us this day our daily bread.
                        And forgive us our debts,
                        as we forgive our debtors.
                        And lead us not into temptation,
                        but deliver us from evil:
                        For thine is the Kingdom,
                        and the power, and the glory, forever.
