HEDDLE QUARRY PRICES
QUALITY CONTROL Effective from 22.06.15
Quarry materials are tested regularly to ensure compliance with British Standards.
GRADING INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ON REQUEST
SCALPINGS weight approx. 2 Tonnes/m³ £3.50 per tonne
30mm down material: suitable for road and track repairs. Moderate moisture content and
contains some clay.
BLASTED ROCK weight approx. 2 Tonnes/m³ £6.45 per tonne
Material extracted by blasting from the quarry face. Sizes vary from 2 tonne stones down to
dust.
DUST weight approx. 2 Tonnes/m³ £5.25 per tonne
Mainly used for blinding (topping) driveways and roads. Also used for bedding paving slabs
and water pipes.
ROAD MATERIAL / CRUSHER RUN weight approx. 2 Tonnes/m³ £6.50 per tonne
100 / 150mm down material: Ideal for roads and site works when there is no engineer’s
specification to be met. Suitable for shallow excavations (up to 150mm).
TRACK MATERIAL weight approx. 2 Tonne/m³ £4.50 per tonne
125mm down unscreened material, contains some clay. Ideal for upmake sites and constructing
roads for light traffic, also excellent infill for farm gateways.

Selected stone ranging from 50kg to 350kg. (approximately 400 – 650mm). Recommended for
coastal protection (as used on Kirkwall Harbour Front). Please order well in advance.
STANDING STONES £50 per tonne
As used at the Heddle Quarry entrance, these can be up to 4 metres in length. It’s best to arrange
to visit the quarry to see what is available.
We can also cut stone sills, lintels, hearth stones, corner stones, etc
to your specification at Heddle Quarry.

125mm down. A well graded granular material. Suitable for roads/sites for moderate depth
excavations (up to approximately 200mm) Requires a minimal amount of blinding to obtain a
smooth finish.
CLASS 1B - Table 6/1 weight approx. 1.7 Tonnes/m³ £7.95 per tonne
70 – 125mm. A uniformly graded granular material which compacts well to give a very sound
surface. The most commonly used hardcore for roads, sites, and foundations.
CLASS 6N - Table 6/1 weight approx. 1.7 Tonnes/m³ £8.45 per tonne
75mm down. Suitable as hardcore on roads/sites where excavations are shallow,
(up to approximately 120mm).
TYPE 1 - Table 8/2 weight approx. 1.85 Tonnes/m³ £8.45 per tonne
50mm down. Well graded granular material recommended for preparing roads/sites prior to
laying tar or concrete. This product compacts well and is easy to grade giving a smooth, sound
surface for roads and drives, excellent for repairing pot-holes etc. Low water absorption.
FILL – recycling material weight approx 2 Tonnes/m3 £1.00 per tonne
200mm down material, suitable for infill. (Moderate/high moisture content).
TOP ROCK weight approx. 2 Tonnes/m³ £3.95 per tonne
Ungraded fill: Suitable for infill, farm tracks etc where excavations are deep. May contain large
slabs of stone up to approx 600mm in diameter, and some clay. We recommend this product is
spread with a tracked excavator.
CRUSHED CONCRETE £5.25 per tonne
A recycled material: suitable for shallow excavations i.e. roads and driveways.

On average, a tonne of chips should cover about 80 square metres. It also depends on the size of the chip: Tuscan, which is a smaller chip,
should cover 100 square metres.
The above materials are derived from naturally sourced minerals and variations in colour may occur, therefore we do not recommend
you use different batches on the same property.
Gravel & shingle products may have traces of naturally occurring iron which on weathering can cause localised staining.
Orkney Aggregates Ltd cannot accept liability for these problems but can offer advice on suggested remedial work.

Charcoal is similar in appearance to an Orkney flagstone. Slabs can be cut to order.

Kale: Charcoal in colour, similar to Orkney Flagstone.
Belmont: Shades of brown, ochre, khaki and grey, very similar in appearance to that of York
stone.
Rossendale: Consistent tones of light grey, with streaks of white banding marks and a natural
riven surface.
Autumn Brown or Horton: Various golden brown tones with a natural riven surface.

LINTELS & SILLS
All our sills and lintels are made of C30 reinforced concrete. Lintels increase by 200mm up to
5 metres and Steel Mould sills start at 800 millimetres and go up in 100mm increments to 2.5
metres. Floated Finish sills can be any length you want, up to 3.5 metres. If we don’t have the
size you want in stock, we can make it to your requirements. Please note there is a one metre
minimum charge.
LINTELS
Lintels normally have a textured finish to allow the rendering to adhere to them, but you can
request a fair-face finish on one, two or three sides. Add £12.00 per metre for one or two fair-
face sides and £17.00 for three.
