Aoife Ní Bhraoin returns home to help her father
Brendan ‘The Bear’ Ó Briain recover from a heart
attack. Day to day they get along just fine, but there
is so much that has been left unsaid about the loss of
her mother.

Over this summer she gets pulled back into the
competitive world of rowing. She lets herself become
close to the three women in her crew, but as the big race
approaches Aoife feels an unbearable strain, years of
suppressed grief and sadness, that could seriously wreck
their chances of success.

                                                LOLA

In 1941, sisters Thom and Mars have built a machine,
LOLA, that can intercept radio and TV broadcasts
                                                from the future.

With the Second World War escalating, the sisters decide
to use the machine to intercept information from the
future that could help with military intelligence. The
machine initially proves to be a huge success, rapidly
twisting the fortunes of the war against the Nazis.

While Thom becomes intoxicated by LOLA, Mars begins
to realise the terrible consequences of its power. As their
relationship falls apart, a fatal error with the machine
creates a nightmarish future. Can the sisters’ love for
each other save the world they’ve lost?

Wolf

Wolf tells the story of Jacob, a boy who believes he’s a
wolf trapped in a human body undergoing treatment
in a radical behavioural reform institute. Unlike his
teenage peers who progressively ‘renounce’ their
animal selves, he gets further and further away from
being ‘cured’. Given the chance to howl, to behave like
a wolf, he feels liberated.

The only respite to his ever-growing restlessness is
Wildcat, a 22 year-old, enigmatic patient with whom
he roams the clinic in the dead of night. The two form
an improbable friendship that develops to infatuation.
Can he renounce his true self, for love? Can he live life
repressing who he is?

Holding

Based on Graham Norton’s acclaimed novel, this
darkly comic story of love, secrets and loss explores –
with searing honesty and sharp wit – the complexities
and contradictions that make us human.

The remote Irish village of Duneen has known little
change or drama. Time doesn’t pass here; it seeps away.
Yet its inhabitants are troubled. Sergeant PJ Collins hasn’t
always hidden away, filling his days with comfort food
and half-hearted police work. Mother-of-two Brid Riordan
hasn’t always been an alcoholic. The elegant Evelyn Ross
hasn’t always felt that her life was a total waste. So, when
human remains are found, Duneen’s dark past is waiting
to unravel. Struggling to solve a serious crime for the first
time in his life and connect with the village he has tried
so hard to avoid, PJ is about to unearth a community’s
worth of anger, resentment and regret.

Compares

Nothing Compares is the story of Sinéad O’Connor’s
phenomenal rise to worldwide fame and how her
iconoclastic personality resulted in her exile from
the pop mainstream. Focusing on her prophetic
words and deeds from 1987-1993, the film reflects
on the legacy of this fearless trailblazer through a
contemporary feminist lens.
