PROJECT OUTLINE
WOMEN PROGRAM
The program aims to empower women in marginalized
areas to be self-reliant though economic livelihood
projects and provision of knowledge and services on
SRHR.
It takes 5 years to graduate the women empowerment
program. During the 5 years the women must go through
different trainings including: Orientation, SBS training,
Agricultural training, Rights Way Forward training, Sexual
reproductive health, Nutrition/Safe cooking methods,
Handiwork and Leadership training.
Graduation occurs when a group has gone through all the trainings, has created self-sustained projects, are
able to do table banking on their own, solve group problems on their own and when a group can apply for
funding on their own.
Dandelion Africa currently works with 37 women groups, with a minimum of 10 in each and a maximum of
20. Currently 15 groups are new and 17 groups have existed between 1-5 years. We work with 500 women
actively and have worked with 1,500 women since inception.
OTHER PROJECTS
Dandelion Africa has the In-house Savings and Credit Cooperation where women can save for
development, school fees and long term projects. It currently has over 1 million shillings in savings.
In August 2018 Dandelion Africa officially launched the Dandelion Empowerment Fund which is a small
loan that the organization gives to women groups ranging from Kshs 50,000 to Kshs 100,000 The initial fund
was given by a funder and we have so far given our loans to 6 groups.
Dew Drop
Over 20 women have received water tanks through the Dew Drop project where they received water tanks
from Dandelion Africa through the support of companies in Sweden. This has been a great help as they
have indicated a steep decline in water born diseases in their homes.
We hope to give an additional 20 women, water tanks in 2019.
Future
The aim is to add 10 new women groups each year and that they graduate after maximum 5 years.
Here is a representation of what the women empowerment program includes very briefly:

YOUTH PROGRAM
The Youth Program aims to empower youth in the
community to have knowledge on their basic rights
and sexual productive health. The program consist of
two branches, the Youth Peer Provider program that
targets youth living in Mogotio sub county, Baringo
county and the Girls for Leaders, Boys for Change
program which targets parents and young persons
living in both Baringo and Nakuru county.

The Youth Peer Providers (YPPs) are trained in
teaching various topics to their peers. They go out to
schools and teach boys and girls in class 4 – 8 and high
schools, on topics connected to SRH. They follow a
curriculum that includes topics such as; Dream Course
Method, Puberty and Body Changes, Pregnancy,
Abstinence, Sexual Harassment and Abuse, HIV and AIDS, STIs, Traditional influences; FGM, GBV, Drug and
Substance Abuse, Love and Infatuation, Relationships, Abortion and Menstruation. Every term the
curriculum starts over and every topic is taught for 2 months (depending on the school). Besides going to
schools, the YPP’s are also sent out to communities with a high rate of school drop outs to talk to both the
youth and the elders about how to create change. The program runs for 1 year and the aim for 2019 is to
reach 45 new schools.

Girls for Leaders, Boys for Change also follows a curriculum that includes similar topics as the YPP’s. The
G4L/B4C conduct Roadshows and Skits to reach the people in the communities through a fun and
interesting way. Their aim is to visit at least one village every time they are on holiday from school. The
program runs for one year and the aim every year is for 1500 girls and 2000 boys to join the program and
for 1000 youths to use the services provided.

Here is a representation of what the youth program includes over the main three years:

Class 6 Class 7 Class 8 and high schools

reproductive health and health care services. It
includes the Dandelion-Ulla Marie Clinic, a static

focuses on specific villages for specific health
services. There are 2 Nurses employed by
Dandelion who work in these villages. They only
offer, immunization, family planning and cervical
cancer screening. The aim of this project is to
reduce infant mortality by ensuring every child is immunized and to ensure people with disability can be
reached in their homes. The nurse is sometimes accompanied by the Youth Peer Providers and community
health volunteers (CHVs). The visited villages are chosen from their type, amount of population and the
needs. The villages are assessed in cooperation with the Mogotio Health Center. The community Health
Volunteers help mobilizing the community.

Mobile Outreach: Around 8 outreaches are conducted each month . In order to do an outreach the
Dandelion staff has to inform the chief of the area, inform the village elders, do a survey and check out the
