2021 in the Rear-View Mirror
It was another challenging year. COVID continued to disrupt our lives, but with your help, we not only
met the challenge, but accomplished much, much more. Here are some highlights:

LEADING THE WAY:
WhidbeyHealth opened Island County’s first vaccine
clinic, administering more than 17,000 shots to give our
community a head-start on beating the virus. As new
variants arrived, we began offering COVID vaccines and
boosters at the Community Pharmacy.

STRATEGIC PLAN:
We’re keeping an eye on the future with the 2021 Strategic
Plan, our framework for continuous improvements in
service quality, attracting and retaining best-in-class talent,
and growing our financial sustainability.

INNOVATIONS:
As our community evolved, so did Whidbey Island’s
healthcare system:

Happy & Safe Holiday
    After another challenging year,

at the top of the menu.
    Start with who gets invited,

    At home
    • Protect those not yet eligible
      for vaccination such as young
      children by getting yourself
      and other eligible people
      around them vaccinated.
    • Consider using a self-test
      for anyone joining indoor
      gatherings with anyone who
is not in your household. Have

    • People who are unvaccinated
continue to have 5 to 10 times
      higher rates of transmission
      than vaccinated persons.
    • If you are sick or have
      symptoms, don’t host or

                                   WhidbeyHealth Family Birthplace so special.
Childbirth, a common experience, can be wonderful, joyful, and frightening at the
same time. Knowing what to expect is a critical first step. Our birthing classes could
be a great place to start!

WHAT TO EXPECT:
From your first visit to your arrival for the big event, to your delivery and throughout your
postpartum journey, our goal is to ensure you have the best experience possible.
Due to the risks presented by COVID, visitors are not allowed in the Family
Birthplace. Expectant mothers are allowed one support person and a Certified Doula
in the birthing room.
We have four beautiful, spacious, and private Labor and Delivery rooms with the
comforts of home including jetted Jacuzzi tub, personal refrigerators, seating area
and second bed for your support person.

MEETING YOUR NEEDS
Everyone hopes for a smooth and easy delivery where everything goes as planned.
But occasionally, unexpected needs arise, and our team is prepared to meet those
needs including things like early delivery, breech, Cesarean sections, and twins!

We deliver 20 to 40 babies each month. We’re
also a launching point for many deliveries,
                      providing urgent treatment, stabilization and
transfer to other facilities when needed.
                      Dr. Megan McSorley

TAKING CARE OF YOUR NEWBORN
We partner with PAWI and Physicians group for pediatric support, Seattle Children’s
Hospital, and the state-wide neo-natal network to ensure moms and newborns get
the best care possible.

WHAT’S NEW
We’re excited to welcome award-winning Dr. Justin Williams to our team. Dr.
Williams grew up in a rural community in Oregon and brings a wealth of knowledge
and experience.
We’re also working on creating a Centering Pregnancy program, connecting women
who have the same delivery month, so they can share and support one another
throughout their journey.

Staying Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) is one of
many skills training courses offered by WhidbeyHealth
Emergency Medical Services. SAIL classes will be returning
in 2022, and there’s never been a better opportunity to get
active and learn valuable skills to remain physically healthy
and independent.
Senior falls are the number one most preventable cause of
injury, disability, and even death to those 65+. Our senior
falls prevention program at WhidbeyHealth focuses on
identifying fall prevention strategy, growing strength,
maintaining balance, and healthy aerobic exercise. See
