2021 in the Rear-View Mirror It was another challenging year. COVID continued to disrupt our lives, but with your help, we not only met the challenge, but accomplished much, much more. Here are some highlights: LEADING THE WAY: WhidbeyHealth opened Island County’s first vaccine clinic, administering more than 17,000 shots to give our community a head-start on beating the virus. As new variants arrived, we began offering COVID vaccines and boosters at the Community Pharmacy. STRATEGIC PLAN: We’re keeping an eye on the future with the 2021 Strategic Plan, our framework for continuous improvements in service quality, attracting and retaining best-in-class talent, and growing our financial sustainability. Happy & Safe Holiday After another challenging year, most of us long to gather with friends and family this holiday season, and COVID-19 safety is at the top of the menu. Welcoming Your New Addition This is a special time for you, your family, and your newborn. That’s why the WhidbeyHealth Family Birthplace team takes a comprehensive, patient centered approach. We caught up with Dr. Megan McSorley to learn more about what makes WhidbeyHealth Family Birthplace so special. Childbirth, a common experience, can be wonderful, joyful, and frightening at the same time. Knowing what to expect is a critical first step. Our birthing classes could be a great place to start! WHAT TO EXPECT: From your first visit to your arrival for the big event, to your delivery and throughout your postpartum journey, our goal is to ensure you have the best experience possible. Due to the risks presented by COVID, visitors are not allowed in the Family Birthplace. Expectant mothers are allowed one support person and a Certified Doula in the birthing room. We have four beautiful, spacious, and private Labor and Delivery rooms with the comforts of home including jetted Jacuzzi tub, personal refrigerators, seating area and second bed for your support person. MEETING YOUR NEEDS Everyone hopes for a smooth and easy delivery where everything goes as planned. But occasionally, unexpected needs arise, and our team is prepared to meet those needs including things like early delivery, breech, Cesarean sections, and twins! We deliver 20 to 40 babies each month. We’re also a launching point for many deliveries, providing urgent treatment, stabilization and transfer to other facilities when needed.
