Foxtel has long recognised the importance of empowering the next
generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. We’ve worked Chief Executive Officer
closely to support the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME)
to enable them to help with even more young First Australian high school
students to finish high school and transition into university, further education
and training, and employment. We’ve also developed a relationship with
CareerTrackers, which has allowed us to actively support young Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander university students through internships on
their path to success. We look forward to continuing and growing these
commitments in this RAP.

Chief Executive Officer
Foxtel understands the importance of building and maintaining respectful Reconciliation Australia
relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in order to
produce mutually beneficial outcomes. It champions these relationships
by celebrating and promoting National Reconciliation Week (NRW) each
year, and in 2016, partnered with Reconciliation Australia to promote our
Community Service Advertisement (CSA), allowing the key messaging of
NRW to resonate across the nation.
Respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and
cultures is key to Foxtel’s core values and vision for reconciliation. It
demonstrates this through its commitment to embed cultural protocols into
the processes and functions of the organisation, including inviting a local

Foxtel Reconciliation Action Plan 2017–2019 9Foxtel’s RAP Journey
As a leader in the Australian media and entertainment industry, Foxtel takes great pride in our
commitment to reconciliation. In 2008, we launched our first RAP and since then we’ve grown
our engagement with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and shared many
stories of success and resilience with our customers and the wider Australian community.
Since we launched our first RAP we’ve learnt that it takes time to develop, implement and
embed RAP initiatives across the company. We know the most important element of our RAP
is to build deep relationships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and to
concentrate on collaboration in achieving our RAP actions. We are looking forward to growing
the profile of our RAP with our team members and Foxtel’s customers and stakeholders.
We’re proud of our RAP successes. Originally as the platform host of NITV and through the
Who We Are documentary series, Foxtel has been a champion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander stories. We are a founding member and play an active role in the Media RING, a
network of media and entertainment companies dedicated to reconciliation and have worked
very closely to support our RAP Partners Reconciliation Australia, AIME, CareerTrackers and
Supply Nation over our past four RAPs.
Foxtel takes very seriously our role as a broadcaster to millions of Australians. As such, we
have provided Reconciliation Australia, the Recognise campaign and AIME with resources to
create digital content, print advertising and on-air advertising to raise awareness of important
national campaigns including National Reconciliation Week, reconciliation messages around
the AFL’s Indigenous Round, and National Hoodie Day and The Other Election for AIME.
Foxtel commissioned programs increasingly include an Acknowledgement of Country in their
end credits and shows like River Cottage Australia share Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
themed content with our customers.

The Who We Are series was conceived by Foxtel, in partnership with
Reconciliation Australia, in 2010. Over the course of three documentaries;
Who We Are, Who We Are: In Sport and Who We Are: Brave New Clan,
the series celebrates who we are as a nation, right here and right now by
sharing positive stories of leadership, resilience and success.
Who We Are: Brave New Clan premiered on Foxtel’s Bio channel in
NAIDOC Week in 2014. It was directed by Leah Purcell and co-written by
Larissa Behrendt, Suzi Taylor and Leah Purcell.
Who We Are: Brave New Clan is a documentary following the lives of six
exceptional young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and showing
how in modern day Australia they engage with their communities, histories
and cultures.
As part of their contemporary lifestyles, these inspiring young Australians

Of the documentary, Leah Purcell said: “We’re proud of the documentary
we’ve created – it promotes understanding and respect for Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander people, histories and cultures, while dispelling some
commonly held stereotypes. Who We Are: Brave New Clan celebrates
diversity across Australia and we hope it inspires audiences to find out more
about Indigenous place names, people, languages and cultures in their own
