OUR MISSION Project Angel Food prepares and delivers healthy meals to feed people impacted by serious illness, bringing comfort and hope every day.
Project Angel Food is Los Angeles’ leading non-profit provider of nutritional meals and counseling for people living with serious illnesses, such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and renal failure. Born in response to the AIDS crisis, today Project Angel Food provides its vital services for people suffering across a spectrum of critical diagnoses and reflecting the county’s diverse demographics. Informed by the belief that ‘food is medicine’, healthy meals are medically tailored by our registered dieticians and chefs to meet the nutritional care required by the clients’ specific medical conditions. Project Angel Food clients, homebound and often living alone, are unable to shop and cook for themselves, and rely on Project Angel Food as a vital lifeline of nourishment and hope. The drivers deliver more than food; they carry the message to those in greatest need that someone cares. Since our inception in 1989 – 30 years this year – Project Angel Food has delivered more than 11.5 million meals to over 22,000 people, a testament to the Agency’s ability to implement and sustain a successful home-delivered food and nutrition program helping eliminate fear and loneliness.

Project Angel Food will celebrate the 30th Annual Angel Awards Gala on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at its headquarters at 922 Vine Street in Los Angeles. Angel Awards is considered one of LA’s most enduring late summer events on the social calendar. The evening is magical – our parking lot is transformed from the launch-pad of 12,000 free, nutritious meals per week, to a chic outdoor ballroom under the stars. It’s here that we celebrate the many dedicated donors, friends and volunteers who make our life- saving work possible. Guests walk the red carpet, enjoy cocktails and silent auction before savoring dinner curated by some of LA’s most celebrated chefs. The program commences with award presentations, exciting live auction, and concludes with a special musical performance. Angel Awards proudly recognizes individuals, companies and organizations who embody love and compassion for those we serve. Past recipients include Elizabeth Taylor, Whoopi Goldberg, Aileen Getty, Shirley MacLaine, Jane Lynch, Judith Light, Eric McCormack, Olivia Newton-John, Sharon Stone, Kiehl’s Since 1851, Nordstrom, Paramount Pictures, Disney VoluntEARS, Lisa Rinna, George Michael and most recently, Debra Messing, Chaz Dean and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Alongside attendees from the arts, entertainment, business and philanthropic communities, this meaningful evening is filled with celebrity presenters and memorable musical performances. Past presenters and performers include k.d. lang, Alan Cumming, Jennifer Holliday, Barry Manilow, Pauley Perrette, Anjelica Huston, Viola Davis, Neil Patrick Harris, Amy Adams, Dave Navarro, Lily Tomlin, Charo, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Adam Lambert, Cheyenne Jackson and Megan Hilty.
