How do I enrol?
You can only enrol in these VET programs through your school.
Contact your VET coordinator or careers advisor.
When do applications close?
We give priority to applications received by Friday 1 November 2019.
Late applications will be accepted but positions are not guaranteed.
Please note that classes run subject to student numbers.
What happens after I apply?
If your application is successful, you will be contacted at a later date by the respective department.
A contract will be sent to your school four weeks after classes commence.

How do I enrol?
You apply through the course page on the Holmesglen website, then Holmesglen staff will contact
you to organise your interview and pre-training assessments. During your interview, you will need to
complete an industry choices form.
When do applications close?
You can apply all the way up to the course start date.
What happens after I apply?
You accept your Letter of Offer, register for classes and pay your fees. If we are not the right
alternative pathway for you, we will assist you to find one that is.

programs at Holmesglen. You will also have gained industry relevant skills that may be immediately
applied in entry level employment opportunities within the industry.
This course is suitable if you have an interest in digital media, animation, web design and
graphic design.
Overview: In the first year of this course, you will learn to follow a design process, produce and
prepare images, and collect and generate content. These skills will be used to develop media
for print and screen, and create interactive applications using the Adobe CS5 suite of products,
specifically, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash. You will complete projects including a
DL postcard, DVD slip cover, disc label, HTML newsletter, HTML website, Flash animation, Flash
video, Flash website, and group website (Flash and HTML).
In the second year, you will enhance your design skills by exploring layout and typography. You will
develop visual literacy through maintaining a visual diary and learn about writing styles for varying
multimedia content. You will develop a game using Flash ActionScript and learn the basics of digital
composing using After Effects. You will also complete several projects, including logo development
and corporate identity, Illustrator Portrait, an advertising pitch (group exercise), a Flash game, Flash
digital portfolio and After Effects video sequence. In addition, you will spend time at the end of the
course preparing for the multimedia exam.

production process. During the course, you will learn how to create fashion illustrations, both by
hand and digitally, put together colour and fabric proposals, draft patterns and sew garments. You
will learn all these skills in purpose built, industry standard facilities, and on the latest industrial
equipment, taught by industry professionals.

Overview: This course provides you with an introduction to the practice of graphic design and
prepares you to enter a wide range of art and design courses at certificate, diploma and degree
level. Supported by encouraging, industry experienced teachers, you will be introduced to a wide
variety of drawing materials and techniques when producing finished design pieces using the Adobe
suite of products, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
Throughout the course, you will create illustrations, both manually and digitally, explore layout and
typography, learn digital DSLR photography and how to apply colour in a variety of contexts. Upon
successful completion of this course, you will have prepared a folio of design projects, learned how
to present them professionally and participated in an exhibition of your work.

aircraft, structural work and electrical switchboard cabinets.
Overview: Engineers are interested in how things work and are employed to design, invent,
create, maintain and improve everything from buildings to bridges and aeroplanes, to plastics and
computers. This course aims to provide pre-employment training and pathways into the engineering
manufacturing or related industries and entry into the wider engineering industry.
It will provide you with competencies in a range of engineering skills such as welding, basic
machining, fabrication and use of hand and power tools. This course is suitable if you have an
interest in air-conditioning and refrigeration, CAD, electrical, mechanical, structural engineering,
fabrication and panel beating. Fabrication tradespeople learn to make and repair metal fabricated
products, including the shaping, cutting and welding of metal. They are often engaged in projects
that involve heavy metal design in construction, mining, manufacturing, power generation and
shipping industries.
At present, employer demand for engineering tradespeople exceeds supply. The manufacturing
and engineering area is the largest employment sector in Australia, with over one third of all job
vacancies for trade qualified people. Completing this course can provide you with a pathway into a
highly rewarding career in a wide variety of industries.

and a Diploma of Digital and Interactive Games. Students studying the games stream are also
suitable to follow a study pathway into a Certificate IV in Web Based Technologies, and a Diploma
of Website Development. This course can be used by students to support VCE ATAR outcomes.
Overview: This course will give you the skills to be competent in introductory game design and
development - an excellent pathway in getting started in the game design industry. This two-year
program is for secondary school students taking on VET studies as part of their school enrolment.
Over the course of the program, students will be able to complete the qualification and have the
option of undertaking a Scored VET in VCE.
CERTIFICATE III IN INFORMATION, DIGITAL MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY (SUPPORT STREAM)

Entry requirements: When undertaking the course, you must be enrolled at a school as a VCE or
VCAL student.
Career opportunities: This course is suitable for those who are looking for entry-level positions
in an IT repair or level 1 helpdesk support environment. It is an entry point qualification for those
seeking to develop their IT skills and foundation knowledge. Using this course to pathway into
further education in IT will lead to career roles in the Information Technology industry.
Overview: This course will give you the skills to be competent in introductory IT helpdesk support
tasks. This course is an excellent pathway into further study in courses at Certificate IV level and
higher, which will lead to job outcomes in IT support, a wide range of IT technical support roles,
systems administration and network administration. It is also an excellent course to pathway into
studying Cyber Security. Over the course of the program, students will be able to complete the
qualification and have the option of undertaking a Scored VET in VCE.

Entry requirements: When undertaking the course, you must be enrolled at a school as a VCE or
VCAL student.
Career opportunities: The course produces workers who provide assistance to physiotherapy
professionals, and registered and enrolled nurses. Workers at this level operate under direct
supervision and do not conduct programs or therapeutic interventions.
Job roles include: Therapy assistant, physiotherapy assistant, allied health assistant, assistant in
nursing, health services assistant.
Overview: This course is suitable if you are interested in working in the healthcare sector and
becoming an allied health assistant or an assistant in nursing. The two years’ part time study will
give you an opportunity to commence your studies in one of these fields. The first year is a generic Students who complete

services sector. You will learn about meeting individual needs, community participation, working
with diverse people and community development. Your learning will involve role plays, simulations,
project work, incursions and excursions. If you are passionate about empowering and supporting
people, this could be the course for you.
CERTIFICATE III IN LABORATORY SKILLS

Entry requirements: When undertaking the course, you must be enrolled at a school as a VCE or
VCAL student.
Career opportunities: This course is suitable if you have an interest in biological testing,
biotechnology, chemical testing, environmental monitoring, food testing and pathology testing.
Overview: During this course, you will complement and expand your scientific studies by gaining
the practical skills and knowledge to assist in collecting and preparing samples to carry out,
measure and record results associated with the day-to-day operations within a chemical, biological
and physical testing laboratory.
You will learn skills in maintaining a laboratory, routine sampling and testing, recording data, and
using laboratory computing programs. You will also learn how to prepare cultures, perform sterile
techniques and assist with field work. This course will be undertaken in the new state-of-the-art
laboratories at Holmesglen Moorabbin where you will have access to equipment that can usually
only be found in a technical setting.

In this course, you can choose to study a combination of core units alongside specialist industry
streams. You will complete the main VCAL units over two days each week. During another two
days of the week, you will have access to specialist facilities at Holmesglen for industry specific
streams. Each stream offers approximately 200 hours of competency training at Certificate II
or Certificate III level, and you will complete two industry streams throughout the year (one per
semester). It may also be possible to study a different course of interest whilst completing the
2 days of VCAL core. Studying VCAL Senior this way will give you your Year 12 qualification and
accredited training in your chosen career path at the same time. Plus, one day per week is set
aside for you to organise part time or casual work.

Laura was part of new integrated practical placement program
with The Royal Children’s Hospital. The pilot program saw
10 students from the Certificate I in Work Education class
complete practical placements at the hospital.
Laura worked in the Early Learning Centre, where she received
employment following her work experience.
Holmesglen’s partnership with The Royal Children’s Hospital
was created to increase job outcomes for students with learning
disabilities. Two of Laura’s classmates were also offered
employment, and a total of eight learners from the
program are engaged in other employment.
