SPONSORSHIP INFORMATION - Scaling Bitcoin
History & Organizational Goals
We launched Scaling Bitcoin in 2015 as a two-part event in Montreal and Hong Kong
to foster a dialogue within the Bitcoin engineering and academic communities. We
executed the initial Scaling Bitcoin events with the underwriting support of the MIT
Digital Currency Initiative, Chaincode Labs, Chain, and Blockstream and housed
 under Base58 Association, a Canadian non-profit organization.

Following the success of the first two events, we’ve scheduled the Scaling Bitcoin
conference as an annual event. We held our 2016 event in Milan, Italy., 2017 event
at Stanford University, U.S.A., and 2018 event at Keio University, Tokyo, Japan.

We’ve also branched out to support
 related initiatives which aim to
 complement the existing consensus
 and community building process by
 organizing highly focused in-person
working group meetings. In April 2017,
we held the first S3ND Bitcoin Wallet
 Standards Development Initiative
 (http://s3nd.org) and built stronger
 relationships between Bitcoin wallet
 developers by helping them create
 standards and identify interoperability
opportunities. The event took place in
Berlin with over 20 wallet developers
 in attendance.

In 2017 we’ve launched Bitcoin Edge
Dev++ tutorial track aimed at fostering
 blockchain related education within
 the software development community.

We are currently planning our next set
of events at Tel Aviv University for
 September 9th-12th 2019.

SCALING BITCOIN 2019

                 Scaling Bitcoin “Yesod”
Scaling Bitcoin focuses on the systematic identification of portions of the
Bitcoin protocol that best lend themselves to continuous, non-’consensus
                 layer’ improvement.
Scaling Bitcoin focuses on the refinement of Bitcoin’s existing impressive
security, integrity and performance properties by identifying opportunities
to drive further algorithmic efficiency and rigorous testing.
Particular attention will be paid to the precision engineering of all aspects of
Bitcoin’s quality assurance processes, such as unit, integration and system-
level testing, testnet data gathering and analysis, streamlining toolchain
support and the verification and validation of existing integrity testing and
                 distribution approaches.
In 2018, more than 20 research teams from around the world came to Tokyo to present their
ground-breaking Bitcoin scalability research. Over the last year, these researchers have been
hard at work pushing the envelope with cutting edge technologies. Scaling Bitcoin serves as
the de-facto venue for disseminating the highest caliber innovations to the broader Bitcoin
ecosystem. We hope that you will join us in sponsoring the event so that we can continue to
support the science and scaling of Bitcoin with high quality programming.

Bitcoin Edge Initiative
Through our communication with our past sponsors and
event participants about what problems they’re
experiencing that Scaling Bitcoin should focus on, we
have received one message repeatedly - "Lack of
talent". Organizations that want to participate in and
integrate with the Bitcoin ecosystem face great
difficulty recruiting developers with relevant expertise.

We are running Bitcoin Edge (http://bitcoinedge.org) to
address the bitcoin engineering talent deficit. We ran
Bitcoin Edge Dev++ Bootcamp for the first time during
the Scaling Bitcoin 2017 ‘Scaling the Edge’ in Silicon
Valley.

Bitcoin Edge Dev++ Bootcamp is meant to focus on scaling the development capacity of the
ecosystem via education of developers in the field of cryptocurrency and helping the
industry streamline the process of developer training. The primary focus of this tutorial will
be a basic first-principles introduction to cryptocurrency as well as cryptocurrency-specific
engineering methodologies, security practices, and standard operating procedures.

SPONSORSHIP BENEFITS

Scaling Bitcoin conference is a non-commercial event. We do not allow promotional
activities during the event. However, while limited in this capacity, organizers of the
conference are looking for sponsorship support to allow execution of activities and
initiatives related to the conference and the Bitcoin ecosystem.

The primary organizational benefit of supporting Scaling Bitcoin is contributing to the
development and health of Bitcoin’s engineering and academic community. Scaling
Bitcoin’s strong track record of improving community relations and supporting the
development of new solutions and technologies readily proves its worth. To recognize
and incentivize contributions, we’re offering the following incentives to sponsors of
the upcoming Scaling Bitcoin event:

All sponsors will receive logo placement on http://scalingbitcoin.org and logo
placement on at least one of the conference posters (located at the venue). Logo
placement on http://bitcoinedge.org is available only to Gold and higher tiers.

The following sponsor-related material will be produced during & after the event:

o SUMMARY VIDEO - If sponsored, we
will be producing a summary video
  review of the conference, following
which there will be a "brought to
you by" credits that include names
and logo of Satoshi tier sponsors.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

We are firmly committed to Diversity & Inclusion and have always kept a
sharp focus on promoting the inclusion of new voices and faces. This year we
have a dedicated Diversity & Inclusion Committee to underscore our
commitment.

Part of the sponsorship funds is directed toward coverage of travel
subsidies. In the past, we subsidized 20-25 attendees per conference who
otherwise would not be able to attend our events.

Our commitment to Diversity & Inclusion extends beyond participation in the
event. It’s also critical that we incorporate peoples of many different
backgrounds in our planning and hosting process. Scaling Bitcoin events are
run by volunteers from all around the world with participants from over 18
countries. Each year we aim to host Scaling Bitcoin in a new geographic
region where we will bring maximum benefit to the local hosting community.

We also ensure that Scaling Bitcoin is a welcoming space for everyone
through our strictly enforced Code of Conduct. We take violations of our
Code of Conduct seriously.
