*Student must have studied at least one of these 3 practical subjects & needs to
speak with the teacher involved in order to take up a new practical subject in
fifth year

Portfolio needed to apply for some 3rd Level
courses e.g. Visual Communications - CIT, Fine

Music Entrance Exam e.g. UCC Arts with Music,
CIT Music Performance

*Both subjects can be taken up without Junior
Cert Music and Art though it is essential to ask a
teacher teaching the subject.

3rd Language Rule –
   English, Irish + 3rd language (O/H) essential for:
    UCC, NUI Galway, UCD, NUI Maynooth
   3rd Language not needed for Nursing, Engineering & Science.
    From 2017 NUI Maynooth no longer requires 3rd Language for
    Finance, Business, Accounting, Law
   3rd Language not essential for Institutes of Technology, UL, Trinity,
    DCU, Mary Immaculate College.
   Defence Force Cadetships require a European
    Language.

  construction, engineering, hospitality.

  number of new areas such as healthcare,
  equine science and agriculture.

Bonus Points
for Higher Level Maths
   25bonus points will continue to be
   awarded for Higher Level Maths, at
   grades H6 (40%-50%) and above.
   H7 will qualify for Higher Maths entry
   requirement

   O/H  Maths is a minimum requirement
   for the majority of courses
Choose a balance of
subjects if you’re not sure
to keep your options open e.g.
French or German, a science subject,
a business/practical/humanities
subject, one more subject
Submitting Leaving Cert Options
 You  will be given an open ended choice
  of subjects to begin with.
 Log onto: www.colaistechoilm.vsware.ie
Computer, tablet or smartphone.
Log on with your User name & Password –
Password is case sensitive.
 System will be live from

        Fri 9th Feb – Fri 23rd Feb
Entering options
   Click on Student Options on Left
   Click into boxes and available subjects will pop up.
   Select 6. *NB* order of preferences does matter.
   Aim: to give you top 4 .
   Demo video on school website
Completing options
 Once   you have filled out your 6 subject options:
  ‘option entry completed’ will appear.
 Sign out and you are done.
 Please contact main office at:

 if you are in difficulty.
Change of Mind
 Very   limited once option blocks are finalised

 Request   for change must be made on
 ‘Subject Change of Mind Form’ signed by
 Parent/Guardian & Student.

 Form   will be available from Main Office.

 Requests   by telephone cannot be considered.
