The 15th Siam Physics Congress (SPC2020) was successfully held online during June 4–5, 2020.
Initially, the Thai Physics Society with Mahidol University and Prince of Songkla University had
planned to co-host the SPC2020 in Trang province in Southern part Thailand. Unfortunately, due to
the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic throughout many countries all over the world and also in
Thailand, the organizing committee had seriously considered this unexpected, serious and intense
crisis on the health issue. Therefore, there came a decision that the congress should not be held
physically, but the congress should instead utilize online internet connections through hubs hosted at
the Thai Physics Society and its co-hosts. This is to keep up to the highest standard of health
regulation and self-practice (from WHO) in avoiding the extremely serious pandemic. Consequently,
the Thai Physics Society, Mahidol University and Prince of Songkla University had facilitated and
hosted the SPC2020 as national teleconference during June 4–5, 2020.
This year, we had 194 research abstracts and papers submitted for both oral and poster online
presentations. There were 51 oral presentations, 143 poster presentations, and 173 full papers
submitted for possible publication in all 19 tracks(topics). The scientific program was announced on
the SPC2020 website (http://www.spc2020.org) and also distributed via email to all participants. The
SPC2020 oral sessions were held via ZOOM video conferencing. Participants can join online sessions
either by using their individual ZOOM account or by gathering at the host with social distancing. The
ZOOM’s chat channel as well as professional management from the host-side were employed to
alleviate some glitches (e.g. delayed or unclear signals due to slow internet connection from the client-
side). In addition, the chat channel was also used for exchanging contact details for further detailed
discussion about the presentation.
After the online opening ceremony, one plenary talk was given to the audience of approximately
200 participants. The oral presentations were arranged into 10 successive sessions. Each speaker was
allowed 15-minute presentation including question and answer. The online audience-size of each
session varied between 30 and 50 people. The poster presentation session was carried out on the
SPC2020 website where the authors had uploaded their poster photo and 3-minute VDO clip
describing their works. Other participants could login and access all online posters via hyperlinks on
the website. Participants could also leave comments or questions for the author to answer in the
question-answer section of each poster presentation.
We are very grateful to the organizing and editorial committee for all their contribution in making
this conference successful even experiencing the COVID-19 crisis. The authors and reviewers had
been working very hard to maintain the highest academic standard of the presented articles in this
volume. It is very much hoped that these articles may serve as references across broad topics in
