WHAT COUNTS AS EVIDENCE IN MODERN ORTHODONTIC PRACTICE
In the nineties and the noughties a great deal of emphasis was placed on
Randomised Clinical Trials as being the only kind of evidence that should be read,
referred to and ‘believed’. Of course we should all enthusiastically welcome this
form of high level scientific enquiry and certainly pay attention to the findings of
all these investigations. A more enlightened view however has recently emerged,
whereby due weight is given to the clinical experience of diligent practitioners,
and the patients viewpoint is also taken into consideration when truly delivering
‘evidence based’ practice. These issues will be explored and relevant clinical
examples will illustrate a contemporary view of what amounts to evidence.

ORTHODONTIC INTERDISCIPLINARY TREAMENT
For several patients the interdisciplinary evaluation contains the success key of
the dental and orthodontic therapy. The high percentage of subjects needing or
asking for an orthodontic treatment with dental discrepancies and anomalies of
shape, size and number or presenting simple or complex impactions of teeth or
with periodontal diseases, require a mandatory interdisciplinary approach. During
this lecture it will be presented the pathway to follow in order to settle a successful
orthodontic treatment strategy by means of interdisciplinary intervention options
(esthetic and functional, direct and indirect rehabilitation options, surgery and
periodontal therapy).

COMMUNICATION: DIFFERENT APPROACHES WORK FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE
The golden rule says: “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” This is a nice
quote, but a notable limitation of the golden rule is the fact that others might not want
to be treated the same way you want to be treated; this issue can be addressed by
refining the golden rule into a variant called the platinum rule, which suggests that we
should treat others the way they themselves wish to be treated. And it all starts with
understanding that there are the different types of people and that we need different
approaches to communicate well with most of them. In this presentation 4 main
patient characters are presented and we learn how to use different communication
models to improve our patient’s experience, turning more of them into raving fans.

INTELLIGENT ORTHODONTIC SOLUTIONS. WORK SMARTER. LIVE BETTER.
We are practicing during an amazing time in the history of orthodontics. New
technologies are emerging daily. Some of these innovations are merely hype and
may actually increase the workload of the Orthodontist, while others are incredibly
powerful tools to improve the quality of our clinical care as well as our practice
management efficiencies and effectiveness. This lecture focuses on technology
based orthodontic solutions that will allow you to work smarter and live better. Most
importantly, this lecture will empower you to implement proven, technology-based
strategies to differentiate your practice and to help patients and potential patients
realize that you are the obvious choice for their orthodontic care.
