!VOTING AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Who Can Vote In Ohio
U.S. Citizens,
at least 18 years old by election day,*
residents of Ohio, your county and precinct for at least 30 days and registered to vote at least 30
days before the election,
not been declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate court,
not incarcerated for a felony conviction,**
not been permanently disenfranchised for violations of the election laws.
*If you will be 18 on or before a general election, you may vote for candidates in the primary.
**If you have been convicted of a felony your voting rights in Ohio are re-established once you have been released
from prison.
When to Register
You must register if you have not registered before or are a new county resident or have changed
your residence.
Where to Register
Register at the Lucas County Board of Elections in person or online at lucascountyohiovotes.gov
or by calling for a form and mailing it; or at the municipal buildings of every city in the county; the
UT Student Union Building; public high schools; public libraries; any Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
The completed form must be returned to the Board no later than 30 days before an election in order
to vote.
How to Change Your Name
You can report a name change to the Board of Elections using the registration form available at the
above locations or at the polling place when you vote. At the polling place you must take
documentary proof of the change.
How to Change Your Address
If you are already registered in Ohio and move within the state, change your address by using the
voter registration/change of address form available at the above site or online at the Secretary of
State’s website: https://www.ohiosos.gov/elections/voters/, 30 days before an election in order to
vote in the election. If you change your address after the 30 day deadline, you may still vote in the
next election by calling the Board of Elections for the location of your new precinct; you will then
be required to vote by a paper provisional ballot.
What Identification You Need to Vote
Valid forms of identification are any one of the following: current Ohio drivers license, unexpired
Ohio state or US government photo ID card with name and current address, valid military ID card,
veterans ID card, utility bill, bank statement, government or payroll check, check stub or receipt
for direct deposit, or other government documents that show name and current address (tax
statement, sporting license, court papers, notices, grade reports and transcript from an Ohio public
institution, motor vehicle registrations, license renewal notice, speeding ticket).
