!VOTING AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Who Can Vote
You can vote if you are a U.S. Citizen, are at least 18-years old, a resident of your state,
county and precinct for at least 30 days, you have registered to vote at least 30 days before
the election, you have not been declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate court,
are not incarcerated for a felony conviction or not been permanently disenfranchised for
violations of the election laws.
If you will be 18 on or before a general election, you may vote for candidates in the primary.
If you have been convicted of a felony your voting rights are re-established once you have been
released from prison.
When to Register
To vote, you must register if you have not registered before or are a new county resident.
Registrations are taken throughout the year, but you must register 30 days before an election to
vote in that election.
Where to Register
You can register at the Lucas County Board of Elections in person or online at
www.lucascountyvotes.org or by requesting a registration form via US Mail; or at municipal
buildings in Maumee, Sylvania, Oregon, Waterville, Whitehouse and Ottawa Hills; the UT Student
Union Building; public high schools; public libraries; and at the office of any Bureau of Motor
Vehicles. The completed form must be returned to the Board 30 days before an election in order to
vote in that election.
How to Change Your Name
You can report a name change to the Board of Elections using the registration form available at the
above locations or at the polling place when you vote, however at that location you must take
documentary proof of the change.
How to Change Your Address
If you are already registered in Ohio and move within the state, change your address by using the
voter registration/change of address form available at the above site or online at the Secretary of
State’s website: www.myohiovote.com, 30 days before an election in order to vote in the election.
If you change your address after the 30 day deadline, you may still vote in the next election by
calling the Board of Elections for the location of your new precinct, however, you will then be
required to vote by provisional ballot.
What Identification You Need to Vote
Valid forms of identification are any one of the following: current Ohio drivers license, unexpired
Ohio state or US government photo ID card with name and current address, valid military ID card,
veterans ID card, utility bill, bank statement, government or payroll check, check stub or receipt
for direct deposit, or other government documents that show name and current address (tax
statement, sporting license, court papers, notices, grade reports and transcript from an Ohio public
institution, motor vehicle registrations, license renewal notice, speeding ticket).

The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization of women and men,
encourages the informed and active participation in government and influences public policy
through education and advocacy.
