I think this is fantastic, I just love the guy's answer and the interpretation of
the word BIBLE. Enjoy and pass it on. If you're spiritually alive, you're going to
love this! If you're spiritually dead, you won't want to read it. If you're spiritually
curious, there is still hope.
A Church-goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained
that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. He wrote: "I've gone for 30
years now, and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for
the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So I think I'm wasting my
time, the preachers and priests are wasting theirs’ by giving sermons at all."
This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column. Much to
the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:
"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some
32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single
one of those meals.
But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I
needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be
physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I
would be spiritually dead today!"
1When you are DOWN to nothing, God is UP to something! Faith sees the
invisible, believes the incredible & receives the impossible! Thank God for our
physical and our spiritual nourishment!
IF YOU CANNOT SEE GOD IN ALL, YOU CANNOT SEE GOD AT ALL!
B. I. B L. E. simply means: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth!
When you are about to forward this to others, the devil will discourage you.
So go on! Forward this to people who are DEAR to you and TRUST GOD.

I have to brag
About our flag
With stripes of red and white
Against a blue background, the stars are shining bright
And I have cried
For those who died
Its honor to defend
Our praise for their sacrifice will never, ever end
I will stand
Upon this land
My hand upon my chest
And pledge Allegiance to this flag, my country is the best

5Attention Emory Ladies! We hope that you’ve marked your calendar for
Sunday, September 12 from 11 am to 1 pm, right after church, for our
“getting back together” UMW meeting and lunch! It will be so good to meet
again, discuss the business of the UMW, and then enjoy lunch and
fellowship with one another! We hope you’re planning to be there. All
women of Emory are invited.
November UMW meeting: Date and Time TBD
Ruth Bradford will share with us about another “Bad Girl of the Bible.” If
you’ll recall, we learned about Jezebel in February 2020, pre-pandemic.
December UMW meeting: Date and Time TBD
UMW Christmas Party and Service Project
Until September,
Sherry Wineke, UMW President
Our Project Linus ladies of Emory, over the past many months, made
108 spectacular blankets and quilts to be donated to area hospitals.
We had a dedication of the blankets in church on Father’s Day,
Sunday, June 20th. To see the beautiful display, crafted with prayers and love
for the recipients, really brings home the idea of sharing God’s love and comfort
to those in need. The ladies meet on specific Mondays throughout the year.
There is a job for everyone…. No sewing experience necessary. If interested,
contact Donna Rucker of Paula Mays. Thank you to all that helped with this
project!
In August, Emory will offer scholarships for our high school
graduates planning to continue their education, as well as for our
current college students. Letters of request for financial assistance
should be submitted to the church office, to the attention of Donna
Rucker, no later than July 31st.
6This month we are pleased to tell you about some of our
church family members who have continued their pursuit of
education beyond their four years in college.
Dr. Bryan Buckingham – Congratulations to Bryan, son of Dale and Evan
Buckingham. After many years of study and residency, Bryan completed his
surgical residency at the University of Maryland and is officially Dr. Bryan
Buckingham, M.D. His specialty is colo-rectal surgery and his next year will
be a fellowship year at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York.
Savanna Wright – Emory member Savannah (with her heavenly voice),
daughter of Joanne and George Smith, will begin a graduate program at
the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Her goal will be attaining
two degrees—a Pharmacy degree and a Master of Public Health and
Epidemiology.
Sarah Martin – Sarah, daughter of Brian and Denise Martin, is in her 2nd
year of study at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
Sarah has not yet decided on her specialty, but looks forward to the various
rotations coming in the spring.
Abigail Mehring – Abigail, granddaughter of Pat and Donna Rucker,
received her B.S. Degree this past May, 2021. In the fall, she will return to
Elizabethtown College to complete her Occupational Therapy studies,
necessary for her M.S. degree.
Crystal Tubman – Crystal, granddaughter of Ruth and Bob Bradford,
received her B.S. degree this past May, 2021. In the fall she will continue
her studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art, leading to a Master of
Fine Arts degree.
NCCP Emory also has two other students, Adam Sheely, son of
Connie and Mark Sheely, and Caroline Zentz, daughter of Beth and Rick
Zentz, who are completing their undergraduate studies. In addition, 2021
graduate Makenzie Barnes, great-granddaughter of Connie and Ronnie
Hamm, and Luke Thomas, grandson of Barbara Grogg, are just beginning
to take the next step in their education journey.
Perhaps there are some members of the congregation who would like
to help our very industrious students with their financial responsibilities.
Please consider making a donation during the month of July, specifically
designating the “Scholarship Fund.” We know that all of the NCCP Emory
college / graduate school students would greatly appreciate the help!
7As many of you know, our pianist and choir director Bev
Gandolfo is retiring in September after 30-plus years at
Emory. I’ve been asked to tell everyone about the many
things Bev has done, showing her sharing and caring over
the years I’ve known her.
Bev has taught choral music in the middle and high schools in Carroll
County since she left college. During her teaching career she directed
school chorus and helped judge school choral groups throughout Maryland.
For many years she accompanied Herb Sell and the Carroll County
Choral Society. Several years after Herb retired, she agreed to direct the
Carroll Singers, which she did for ten years. During this time she also
accompanied the New Wave Singers in Baltimore.
Several years ago she was approached by Peabody and Stevenson
University, to teach at Peabody and to form a music program at Stevenson.
Both have done quite well.
Throughout all her trips around Maryland, she still made sure to keep
Emory Church in her heart. She would direct cantatas for the holidays for
the choir to sing, and just like her school kids, she made the big kids enjoy
the music and have fun. She also made sure we had guest singers during
the winter months and the summer.
I know I’ve forgotten many things she has done over the years. All this
she did out of her love for music and her ability to bring out the best in her
singing groups. I guess you could say Bev has had a busy career making
music!
Now she wants to do some other things in her life and the time has
come. We wish you the very best in the future. We wish you love and joy in
the days ahead. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
