FEATURING
www.tramsunday.co.uk
www.sparepartsfestival.co.ukWELCOME TO TRAM SUNDAY Fleetwood Festival of Transport – Tram Sunday returns in 2019 with its packed programme of free entertainment, activities and fun, catering for all age groups. It’s much more than a transport festival and classic vehicle show, with stalls and rides, arts activities and outstanding performances. Attracting staggering numbers to the town every year the Festival is a Fleetwood tradition and welcomes visitors from far and wide. Tram Sunday has not one but two parades – the first Civic Parade at 11.00am sets off from Fisherman’s Walk/Ash St and includes vehicles of many types, the parade proceeds down Lord St. towards North Albert St. and on towards the North Euston Hotel. The SpareParts Arts Parade starts at 3pm (see pages 18-19 for route) and will be packed with crazy contraptions and flying machines created by local community groups and schoolchildren performing with House of Wingz alongside international artists. It’s not too late to get involved – join in with our workshops (page 13) and make something for the parade. You can’t help but be impressed by the lovingly cared for classic motors – and of course our beloved heritage trams. See pages 8-10 for more information on just a small selection of vehicles you can expect to see. Look out for the special Hillman Imp Panda Police Car! Thanks once again go to our main sponsor Chris Allen Garages (Ford and Mazda), to all the businesses in the programme and to all the volunteers who help throughout the year.

‘BALLOON’ TRAMCAR No. 700: TRAMCAR NO. 621
Purple and White “Flexity” liveried Double Decker
The 26 new double deckers had two variations, open toppers and
enclosed. Nicknamed by the staff, due to their somewhat bloated
appearance, they are still known as ‘balloons’ to this day. 700 was the
prototype and built as an open topper for the summer seasons, but

that had been delivered as fully enclosed trams.
TRAMCAR NO. 621: ‘BALLOON’ TRAMCAR No. 700
Single Decker Green & Cream Liveried
No. 621 was the first of its class, built in 1937 supplied by the Brush
Electrical Engineering Company of Loughborough as one of 20 single
deck streamlined rail coaches that formed part of Luff’s modernisation
plan and followed on from 45 similar trams built by English Electric.
This class of 20 quickly became commonly known as the ‘Brush cars’,
to differentiate them from the English Electric fleet. Following essential
conservation work, 621 was returned to an approximation of its original
livery for its 80th birthday in 2017 and operated for the first time that
year on the upgraded tramway.

TAMESIDE CAR COLLECTORS
Tameside Car Collectors started out as a group of friends with an equal
interest in the preservation of classic and vintage cars.
The club was formed when the ‘Museum of Museums’ was opened in
Manchester, at the Trafford Centre and the group had the great honour of
displaying some of their cars within the Museum for the general public to
view and enjoy.
The club hosts and attends events and shows throughout the year and
can be found at all of the major shows throughout the Northwest.
Their members’ cars range from the 1920’s up to 1990’s, so owning a
