Traveling by Train or Bus in Chicago

     • The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) refers to the bus and train system
for the city. The CTA’s train system is sometimes referred to as “the L.”
     • With a transit card, the fare is $2.25 for each train ride in the city and
$2.00 for each bus ride. It costs 25 cents to make a transfer.
     • A transit card can be purchased from the vending machines in the
TRAIN stations and certain retail locations, such as Walgreens or Jewel
using a credit card or cash. Any amount of money can be stored on the
card for later use on any CTA bus or train.
     • Unlimited passes (Unlimited Ride Cards) can also be purchased for 1
     day ($10), 3-day ($20), 7-day ($28), as well as monthly passes ($100).
These can be purchased at Currency Exchanges, select Jewel &
Dominick’s, and in the CTA store.
     • Transit cards or exact cash fare can be used on the buses.
     • It is easiest to take the train into the city, and then catch a cab to either
your hotel or to the zoo.
     • Cabs are approx. $35-$40 from the airports and are usually slower than
the train (especially during rush hour).
     • If you have any questions regarding your travel, CTA representatives
monitor all of the stations and will be happy to answer any inquiries. You
can also visit www.transitchicago.com for a door to door trip planner.

     • CTA bus routes 151 or 156 both serve the zoo; for schedules,
     contact the RTA/CTA at (312) 836-7000.

     • View the next couple pages for a CTA map and directions from the
     local airports.

O’Hare Airport to Lincoln Park Zoo

By using the CTA rail map, follow along with the directions from O’Hare to the
city using Blue line trains. Follow the signs in the airport for “Trains to City”. The
walk from any gate to the O'Hare station of the Blue line is about 10 minutes.
Take any train going into the city (no matter if it is going to Forest Park or to
54th/Cermak) and travel to the Clark station on the same Blue line. Travel time
from O'Hare to Clark is about 45 minutes, and trains run every 5 - 10 minutes.
This is probably faster than taking a taxi or renting a car due to heavy traffic
coming into the city.
At Clark, you can either take a taxi the rest of the way, or use the CTA #22 Clark
bus. The Laflin Building is at 2001 North Clark St., Chicago, IL 60614 (across
from Armitage Ave).

card from the vending machines. Take an Orange line train towards the city (loop
area) and travel to Clark station on the same Orange line. At Clark you can
either take a taxi the rest of the way, or use the CTA #22 Clark bus. Ask the cab
