McDougalls and the Bairds, this charming cottage,
with its pocket-sized gardens, boasts some of the most
spectacular hand-painted friezes and trompe l’oel
ceilings Ontario has to offer.
The Cottage serves as an interpretation centre, hosting
a variety of special events that celebrate the area’s
Scottish heritage. Regular events include monthly

2018 Wee Quilt Challenge
                     Grand
                     Finale

Auld Lang Syne
On exhibit April 13 to June 23
After 15 successful years, our Wee Quilt
Challenge is drawing to a close with the 2018
Grand Finale Challenge – Auld Lang Syne.
Originally a poem, this ancient song was sent by
beloved Scottish poet, Robert Burns, to the Scots
Musical Museum after he was the first to record
it on paper. Auld Lang Syne roughly translates as
“for old times’ sake” or “days gone by”. It is widely
used to symbolize endings and new beginnings
    – including farewells, memorials and closings.
This year, we challenge quilt artists across
Canada and Scotland to create a miniature quilt
that evokes the spirit of this much loved song.

2018 Wee Quilt Challenge entries are due at
    the Cottage by 5 p.m. on March 24, 2018.
          Entry forms available online at

Musician-in-Residence

Tyler Bridge
Tyler, a graduate of the University of Guelph Music
Program, is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist,
whose main instrument is the highland bagpipe.
Combining border pipes with other instruments and
musicians, Tyler draws on influences from artists such
as Hamish Moore, Alan McDonald, Angus McDonald,
Kenneth and Angus Mackenzie, Daihm, Breabach, and
Seudan to combine Cape Breton, Ontario, and Scottish
piping styles in an upbeat Ceilidh atmosphere.
Between teaching guitar and bapipes and acting as
the Pipe Major for the Guelph Pipe Band, Tyler also
competes on the solo piping curcuit.
Please see our website for Tyler’s full biography.
