                    The State Government landfill levy
(a fee applied to every tonne of waste sent
to landfill) is paid by ratepayers. Council is
working to lower this cost by helping residents
to reduce the amount of waste they send
to landfill and divert as much as possible
                        to recycling and compost.

significantly increases the production of greenhouse

Recent waste audits undertaken by Council have

To help divert waste from landfill, your red bin should
only contain household waste that cannot be recycled

City of Melton residents recycle a massive
13,000 tonnes of household recyclables each year
and our recycling rates are on the rise.

However, recent waste audits found that more than
a third of the average yellow bin in the City of Melton coffee cups
contained items that could not be recycled, including
bagged garbage and food waste. This material can
cause major processing issues at the recycling facility.
To help maximise the amount of material being recycled,
it is important that you only use the yellow bin for
        accepted recyclable material. e-waste
