                                 Course Arrival Information

Course Venue
The venue is the University of Melbourne’s ‘Law Building’, located at 185 Pelham Street, Carlton (on
the corner of Pelham & Barry Streets). It is building 106, to the lower-centre of the Map 2 below (map
2).

Registration on the first day
The DeltaMed registration desk will be located in the foyer of the building and will be open from
8.30am on Saturday 26th January 2019.
The introduction to the course will start in the David P Derham Theatre at 8.55am and the first session
of the course will commence at 9.00am. You will need to go to the Registration Desk on Level 1 first,
to collect your course notes.
During the week leading into the course, you should receive an entry-ticket email containing your
unique QR Code. Please bring this with you to the course (it may be stored electronically on your
smart phone or printed out). This QR code will be scanned on your entry to the course. Once scanned
in, you will be provided with that day’s course notes. Please have your QR code ready to show our
registration staff for scanning each morning. If you forget this entry-ticket email, you can sign-in by
showing some ID (please allow more time).

Parking
Car parking in-and-around the venue can be very difficult at the moment due to construction work.
On-street parking is available in the surrounding area, but most of it is metered and of short-term
duration. On-street parking is free after 12.30 pm on Saturday.
Public Car Parks
• The closest public car park to the venue is The University Square Car Park. There are two
  entrances: one is via Berkeley Street, which is entered from the Pelham Street; the other entrance is
  via Bouverie Street, near the corner with Grattan Street. The car park entrances are marked by ‘P’
  icons on Map 2 (below) and costs $20 per day. Due to construction work, you may be directed
  around the block or half the road may be closed but the car park is usually always accessible.
      Note: this car park has number-plate recognition technology. You can still take a ticket at the
      boom-gate and pay at a pay-machine before getting back into your car at the end of the day; or,
      if you press the ‘Casual Parking’ button at the boom-gate on the way in, it will activate the
      number-plate recognition camera. You will not be issued a ticket. You just need to drive up to
      the boom-gate on your way out and stop at the metre-box. Your number-plate will be
      recognised and then all you need do is press your credit card to the panel on the metre-box.
• There is a Public Car Park on the corner of Grattan & Cardigan Streets (entrance on Cardigan
  Street) costs $13 per day.
• The Eastern Precinct Underground Car Park is located at 375 Cardigan Street (between Elgin and
  Faraday Streets), Carlton, and costs $17 per day. Entrance is off Cardigan Street. See Map 1.

How to get to the Venue:

By Public Transport
The University and its surrounds is very well served by trams along Swanston Street and Royal
Parade from the CBD and many other suburbs of Melbourne. Note: Royal Parade becomes Elizabeth
Street near the CBD; and vice-versa.
All the afore-mentioned streets are marked on the attached Map 2. For full information on tram
services and all Melbourne public transport, contact Public Transport Victoria (PTV) on 1800 800 007
(daily 6am - midnight) or on-line at http://ptv.vic.gov.au. The PTV website contains a journey planner
and special section on how to reach the University.

You will need a myki card to travel on public transport
Please note that you will require a myki smart-card to travel on trams. The re-usable myki smart-card
stores value to pay your fare. The myki cards can be purchased at most 7-Eleven Stores and at major
train stations, such as the Southern Cross Station (which is also the airport bus city terminal) and
Flinders Street Station (Melbourne’s main train station in the CBD).

Information for travel from Melbourne Airport
Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport is Melbourne’s international and main domestic airport. All major
airlines use this airport, apart from a few Jetstar flights which use Avalon Airport (see section on
Avalon below). Please note that the majority of Jetstar flights operate from Tullamarine.

From the airport by Taxi:
Taxis are available from the taxi rank outside the airport terminals. It is approximately a 35 minute trip
from Tullamarine Airport to the University (21km) by taxi at non-peak times. At peak times, it can take
up to 40-50 minutes. The 35 minute ride will cost around $55 - $60

From the airport by SkyBus:
The SkyBus service is an express bus service between Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) and
Southern Cross Station in Melbourne’s CBD. Daytime departures are every 10 minutes and the
service operates 24/7. It is a 30 minute journey from the airport direct to the Southern Cross Station
in the city at non-peak hour times. Fares are $18 adult single and $35 adult return. A Family Ticket (2
adults and up to 4 children) is $36 one-way; and $70 return. Taxis are readily available at Southern
Cross Station and a taxi to the University should cost approximately $20 and could take around 20
minutes (it is approx a 4km trip). Alternatively, information on reaching the University by public
transport from Southern Cross Station can be found on the Public Transport Victoria website http://
ptv.vic.gov.au this will however involve changing trams and/or train, as there is no direct connection
from the Station to the University.

Skybus timetables and further information can be accessed at https://www.skybus.com.au It also
runs a hotel transfer service from Southern Cross Station, which is free for Skybus airport
passengers.

Skybus Pick Ups and Drop Offs Points: Melbourne Tullamarine Airport

T1: For Qantas Domestic & QantasLink travellers (Pick up & drop off)
T3: For Virgin Australia, Regional Express and International travellers (Pick up & drop off)
T4: For Jetstar and Tigerair domestic passengers (Pick up…but drop off at Terminal 3)

The SkyBus city terminal is located undercover at Southern Cross Station, near the corner of Bourke
and Spencer Streets in the CBD This is also the pick up/drop off location for the SkyBus Hotel
Transfer Service.

Information for travel from Avalon Airport
Avalon Airport is situated some 55km from Melbourne’s CBD. There is an airport bus linking it
and Southern Cross Station in the CBD. The journey will normally take from 40 - 60 mins depending
on traffic. Please refer to the information above in the section ‘from the airport by Skybus’ on how to
reach the University from Southern Cross Station. Further information on the bus service from Avalon
Airport can be found at www.avalonairport.com.au

Catering on the course
Morning tea, a light lunch and afternoon tea will be provided on both days of the course

Course Schedule
Registration will commence at 8.30 am on Saturday 26th January. The introduction will commence
at 8.55am on the first day; then the first session of each day will commence at 9 am. The course will
finish at 4.45 pm on Saturday 26th January and at 4.15 pm on Sunday 27th January. A detailed copy
of the schedule will be issued with the course notes on the first day. A trial exam will be held in the
last session (3.10 - 4.15pm) on Sunday 27th January.
