M ore than 1,300 young children and their parents were treated
to a fun-filled evening of engaging role-play activities,
bonding and learning at the West Coast GRC and Pioneer
Family Life Champion representatives were also there

for children to participate as they enrolled in various occupations
under realistic environments, for instance, learning to bake as a
pizza chef at a pizzeria, respond to emergencies as a firefighter
or paramedic, or earn their minute of fame on camera as a news
broadcaster. Through family and light-hearted learning oriented
activities like these, the organiser hoped that the children would
walk away with a stronger lifelong passion for learning that
would also inspire them to embrace responsibility, creativity and
independence through play.

W est Coast’s Sungei Pandan Kechil is
now an environmental show piece that
increases greenery and enriches biodiversity
that connects to West Coast Park through the
Park Connector Network and Clementi Woods
Park.
The 600-metre stretch of ‘beautified’
canal between AYE and West Coast Road is
an initiative under the Active, Beautiful, Clean
Waters (ABC Waters) Programme to transform
drains, canals and waterways in Singapore into
beautiful, vibrant and clean rivers, lakes and
streams that integrate with the surrounding
developments and scenic jogging paths.
West Coast GRC MP S. Iswaran announced
the completion of the upgrading works at
a National Day celebration on August 31,
2019. Mr Iswaran, who is also the Minister
for Communications and Information, said
national water agency PUB had initially wanted
to just deepen the canal after flash floods in
September 2013 caused the AYE to be closed
temporarily. But after discussions, Mr Iswaran
said, “we decided to make it into an active,
beautiful and clean water project. So now we
have a lot of facilities here, it is a very beautiful
environment.”

A ffectionately known as Aunty Rose by her neighbours, Mdm
Rasamal has demonstrated that age is no barrier to living out

Ayer Rajah Diary Over 8,000 residents joined
National Day Street Party
T
he streets in Pandan Gardens were filled ‘to the brim’ with over
8,000 people on 3 August 2019 with one common objective:
to celebrate Singapore’s National Day. The festivities started off
with the National Day Observance Ceremony, with a parade of
uniformed groups and a percussion band from Commonwealth
Secondary School. There was the flag flypast, carried by drones,
during the flag raising ceremony and singing of the National
Anthem.
It was the third year in a row since its inaugural year in 2017
that Ayer Rajah’s National Day Street Party was held at Pandan Gardens, in
front of Ayer Rajah Community Club. The road was lined with carnival rides
and inflatables, complete with roving entertainers and Marvel super-hero
characters and non-stop stage performances. The finale was a crescendo
with spectacular fireworks, accompanied by LED-lit kites, lighting up the
night sky.

B lk 640 Hard Court was transformed into a
colourful festival hall with its Mid-Autumn Festival
on 14 Sep 2019. The evening turned into a fairyland
filled with colourful lanterns, sweet mooncakes
and pomelos. More than 300 residents enjoyed the
evening with Mr Cedric Foo, savoring mooncakes as
they watched the lantern procession.

To honour them, Pioneer Constituency held a
Merdeka Generation (MG) Appreciation Night on 24
Aug 2019 at Jurong Safra. The 1,000 participants
were treated to performances and a dinner.

T he occasion at The Frontier CC saw a turnout of 1,000 MG
participants who had contributed towards Singapore’s nation-
building efforts. Mr Cedric Foo spoke of their contributions and
gave them the thumbs up for their efforts and hard work. Our MG
participants tucked into the buffet spread and enjoyed the song and
dance performances.

mooncake festival greetings resonated with over 1,000 residents in Telok
Blangah who attended the Mid-Autumn celebration on 7 September 2019.
Mr Lim Hng Kiang joined residents in the event with highlights that included
lion dance, lantern procession, pomelo skin peeling contest as well as stage
performances and games!

were huge. To emphasise their importance to the nation, West Coast
division held the “Rolling Good Times – A Tribute to the Merdeka Generation”
on 27 July 2019 at Nan Hua Primary School with a turn out of 5,000 MG
residents and their families. Mr S Iswaran graced the event and thanked the
MG residents for their hard work and contributions towards the nation.
