Dixieland Festival Package
During the evening ships' parade for the Dixieland festival in Dres-
den, you will intensively experience the feeling when all ships bring
themselves into formation, the ships' whistles blow in unison and
set off for Pillnitz. In addition to the live Dixie sound of interna-
tional bands, we have another surprise in store: we greet you on
board our historical paddle steamer „Leipzig“ with a glass of spar-

Parade of the Fleet
The traditional start to the season is on the 1st of May, punctually
at 10 am. Whether young or old, join our Fleet Parade on one of

The third weekend in August is traditionally reserved for our Steam-
boat Festival. In focus are the historical propulsion techniques as they
were used over 100 years ago, still used by our paddle steamers today.
You can experience steam propulsion technology in every way, shape
and form on the weekend of the festival. With grand expos, for exam-
ple steam-propelled tractors and locomotives, you can marvel at the
steam model display on the paddle steamer „Meissen“, parked at pier 2.
Visit our great „Steamroller Tug-O-War" on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12
a.m. directly at the Terrassenufer!
Together with the Dresden Transport Museum we will present the sub-
ject „steam“ in diverse ways and look forward to the highlight of the

More information at: dampfschiff-fest.de The paddle steamer „Diesbar“ holds, in part, the oldest river boat
steam-engine in the world continually in use. The engine originated
from the steamboat „BOHEMIA”, built in Prague in 1841, and celebrated
its 175-year anniversary in 2016.
The engine is an oscillating two-cylinder twin engine, using con-
densation injection. The engine uses two oscillating steam cylin-
ders which can be powered with minimal steam pressure, only 2 bar
of pressure necessary for its function. Our paddle steamer „Krippen”
uses the same type of engine. At the beginning of the 1900s oscillat-
ing compound engines began to be built with condensation injec-
tion. Our steamboats „Stadt Wehlen”, „Meißen,” and „Pillnitz” all have
this type of engine, all modified from twin engines with condensation
injection. The steamboats „Kurort Rathen” and „Pirna” were built with
this combination of engine technologies from the start. The height
of steamboat technology was reached with our steamboats „Dresden”
and „Leipzig". Both boats have an offset two-cylinder compound
