DIRECTOR’S NOTES

WELCOME to the Kirk Players’ production of WORDS OF LOVE!
We are so excited to offer this as our Valentine to you! A true
labor of love, the labor started months ago with the idea of a
virtual show of Shakespeare’s love sonnets as active
monologues. I started searching for poems, and with the help
of many others, decided to add other love poems trying to
stretch the spectrum to include a wider variety.

We are very proud of the collection we are presenting. Once
the show was cast, I loved working with all of these remarkable
talents and my amazing staff! It was such a joy to be examining
all of these poems and directing the actors to bring their best
interpretations forward. It took me back to my 35 years as a
high school theater teacher/director, as well as my love for
poetry.

I would like to thank all of the actors for their wonderful
efforts. I would like to thank my immediate staff, Randy Rice,
as Assistant Director, for his tireless efforts; and Jessica
Rattanasena, our Virtual Tech Director who was EVERYTHING
technical on this show. Thanks also to our Artistic Director,
Gretchen Grassl, who approved the idea and contributed many
things from poem suggestions to musical selections. Another
thank you to Meghan Lane, who spearheaded a strong publicity
campaign, and with the talents of Martin Hill, created the
wonderful LOVE IS… promotional video. I also want to send my
wife, Paddy, a special THANK YOU because she had to take care
of me after minor surgery during this entire production. I
could not have done it without her! Yes – a true labor of love!

So, sit back and listen well to old favorites and many you may
not know. All you need is LOVE!

         HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY EVERYONE! —J.L.

                   ABOUT KIRK PLAYERS
We are a nonprofit organization whose mission is to enrich,
educate, and entertain our community by providing a
superior theatre experience, giving back to our community
with an emphasis on the arts, and creating a safe and inclusive
environment.

Kirk Players have been performing since 1966. It all began
when John W. Lynn organized a benefit performance at the
Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church in Mundelein, IL, to raise
funds to help Vietnamese children with cleft palates. John
immediately recognized the opportunity to do something
worthwhile while having a lot of fun performing! He became
our Founder and first Creative Director and established the
tradition that still lives today.

One of our most valued community service tenets is to provide
ongoing contributions to arts and education organizations
through our participation in the arts. Throughout our many
years, we have been privileged to donate in excess of $100,000
to groups in Mundelein and the greater Lake County area.
