Careers at Heathside
Heathside’s Careers Lead is Miss Balson, Director of Sixth Form.

At Heathside we have a progressive careers programme, providing students with information,
advise and guidance relevant to their stage in education.

In your packs you will find information regarding specific career related opportunities for your
son/daughter this year. Additional one off events and presentations may also take place at
times during the year.

You have also been given information regarding how you and your child can access the ‘Start’

of this online tool at home.
To recap: how you can support…

How will progress be measured?
Year 7 Curriculum has been rewritten
                         We are using Flight Paths

                           7A; 7B; 7C; 7D and 7E

• Expected Progress 7C

• 7C - Year 7 benchmark students who would be expected to get a old ‘grade
  C’ or Grade 4

(the number is the Year group not a grade!)
Approx 2/3 of our students will be on Flight Paths A and B

The success criteria to achieve each Flightpath is written by staff.

The success criteria shows the new skills and knowledge that students
will need to attain to achieve each Flight Path.

The success criteria allows ALL students access to every flightpath.
Year 7 Curriculum
• Students will be given an expected flightpath for each individual
  subject.
• The expected flightpath for each student in each subject provides
them with guidance as to the minimum requirement they are
  expected to achieve.
• Students should be able to use the information to inform their
learning – and know what improvements they need to make.
Year 7 Curriculum

Each department has an overall scheme of work for the year
and success Criteria for each unit of work
How and when is my child assessed?

     • How?
        • Through homework, testing, classwork, project work,
questioning. Students also regularly assess themselves and
          each other.

        • Classes are told when tests will take place: no surprises.

     • End of Year exams in June / July
