1.1 Greeting from the Head of the host NF
Dear Friends,
It is an honor and pleasure to greet you on behalf of Turkish Karate Federation and welcome
you to Turkey and the magnificent city of İstanbul.
We would like to thank to President of World karate Federation, Mr. Antonio Espinos for his
support to the World Karate Family and Turkish Karate Federation during these difficult days.
We are ready to host our guests in İstanbul where many young and exceptional athletes will
gather to perfom and compete.
I believe that this event will add great contributions to Karate.

2. INTRODUCTION
The Karate 1 – Youth League is a competition conceived to highlight the impact of Karate in
young ages.
Established under the umbrella of Karate 1 and designed to complete Karate 1-Premier
League and Karate 1-Series A, the Karate 1-Youth League aims at becoming a platform for
the development of youngsters in their quest to progress in the sport.
The competition was devised to respond to the increasing interest of young competitors to
have more options to compete at the highest level and it puts the focus on karatekas aged 12
to 17.
The number of competitors is open. All members of WKF are admitted to participate.
The WKF competition Rules in force will be applied.
3. INTRODUCTION KARATE 1-YOUTH LEAGUE ISTANBUL 2021
The Karate 1 – Youth League Istanbul 2021 will be held 17-19 September 2021 in Istanbul,
Turkey.
4. COMPETITION INFORMATION
4.1 Categories
Junior (16 - 17 years old): 11 categories (9 Kumite + 2 Kata)
Female Kumite: - 48kg, - 53kg, - 59kg, +59kg
Male Kumite: - 55kg, - 61kg, - 68kg, - 76kg, +76kg
Kata: Female, Male
Cadet (14 - 15 years old): 10 categories (8 Kumite + 2 Kata)
Female Kumite: - 47kg, - 54kg, +54kg

4.1.1 Age
IMPORTANT NOTE
The age limit of competitors for the corresponding category will be the first day of the entire
event.

4.2 Prizes
The event prizes (medals and trophies) are to be provided by the host.
In each individual category, the first prize will be a gold medal.
The second prize will be a silver medal.
The third prizes will be bronze medals.

The competition Will be held with 3 referees for Kumite and 5 for kata

5.4 Safe Sport contact
WKF events must be safe for all athletes and participants and entirely free from any form of
non-accidental violence, namely, harassment and abuse. Any such behaviour will not be
tolerated.

6. WKF APPROVED PROTECTIONS, KARATEGIS & TATAMIS
The Karate 1 - Youth League complies with the highest level of presentation. In order to
guarantee the correct delivery of the event and to ensure the suitable quality of the
tournament, exclusively the following brands are WKF Approved for use in the 2021 Karate 1
- Youth League season.

KARATEGIS WITH THE BRAND EMBROIDERED ON THE SHOULDERS
The Karategis with the embroidered brand of the manufacturer on the
shoulders will be accepted for use in the Karate 1 Youth League by those
competitors who wish to do so, both for Kata and Kumite in red or blue
colour, depending if the competitor is AKA or AO.
The authorized brands to use these karategi models are:
ADIDAS – ARAWAZA – BEST SPORTS - BUDO NORD – DAEDO – HAYASHI –
PUNOK - SHUREIDO – SMAI – TOKAIDO – WACOKU – WESING
WKF Facemask and Chest Protector for those under 14 years of age are used

The definite competition schedule will be fixed after closing the online registration in order to
adequate it to the final number of athletes.
78. RANKING
Competitors can earn ranking points in every Karate 1 event according to the official WKF
Ranking Criteria, point 3.2 of the WKF World Ranking Rules;

The applicable ranking will be the one updated on the day of the registration opening.
U-14 category does not earn ranking points.
9. ONLINE REGISTRATION & OFFICIAL ACCREDITATION
All registration in a Youth League event must be processed ONLINE. Onsite registrations will
NOT be accepted.
The registration will be validated once completed the online payment through the payment
platform.
9.1 Online Registration Process
The registration starts on 17th June 2021 at 12hr GMT+0 and closes on 2nd September 2021
at 12hr GMT+0

Clubs and National Federations are responsible for the quality of the entered registration
data. Once closed the online registration, any comments will have to notified to both, the
software team and the WKF, at latest five days before the first day of competition.

9.2 Entry Fee
The entry fees are € 40 per individual category entry.
9.3 Payment
All payments must be processed through the ONLINE PAYMENT PLATFORM. Onsite
payments will NOT be accepted.
89.4 Official Accreditation
The official accreditation will take place on Thursday 16.09.2021 from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00
p.m. at the Wow convention center. Weigh in must be done on 16th of September for all
competitors in kumite categories.
If changes are required during the official registration session, because of incorrect or
missing registration data, a fee of € 20 is charged for each change.
At registration, accreditation cards will be issued with the participants main data, a
photograph and information about registered categories. The accreditation card must be
worn at all times during the event.
Only members of national federations recognized by WKF are admitted to participate, as per
Youth League Organising Rules (YL OR Point 6 Registration).
All participants must submit an official document (passport or other valid ID card) for
the WKF identification and validation at the accreditation session.
The accreditation of any competitor must be done by the athlete or the athlete’s
coach, in person bringing the athlete passport or other valid ID at the accreditation
session.
The competitor who has not collected, either personally or through his/her coach the
accreditation during the official registration, will not be included in the draw.
The weighing will be carried out immediately after receiving the accreditation, those
athletes who will not attend the weighing will not be included in the draw.

10. WKF ACCREDITED COACH PROGRAMME
According to the WKF Coach Educational Programme, the minimum certification required
to take part in Karate 1 – Youth League events is the “Accredited Coach” (level 1). To
obtain such certification, coaches must pass the corresponding examination.
The Accredited Coach licence can be obtained or;
through the WKF E-learning platform for Coaches; https://www.elearning-wkf.net/
or by attending to one of the Programmes for Coaches that the WKF will hold in official events.
A WKF Programme for Coaches will be held in all Karate 1 - Premier League events 2021
and WKF Accredited Coach Certification in all Karate 1- Youth League events 2021.
9Only coaches in possession of the “WKF Accredited Coach” level have access to the “WKF
Kumite or Kata certification “.

10.1.3 Fees
We would like to remind you that the fees for the Program for WKF Coaches are as
follows:

10.1.4 Payment
All payments must be made through Sportdata platform.
No other methods of payment will be accepted.
Registrations and payments onsite will not be accepted.
11. MEDIA
11.1 Press
Press accreditation can only be given to professional journalists working for a media and
having proof of their credentials.
Media professionals can register to request press accreditations through the online

10All accredited press shall follow the WKF Covid 19 Protocol (section 16) which includes
presenting the Original Negative PCR nasopharyngeal test, Waiver of Responsibility as
well as the WKF Heath Questionnaire (section 17).
Moreover, all press will be required to wear a certified face mask (FFP or similar) at all times
and will be compelled to follow the local sanitary measures and WKF COVID-19 Protocol.

19. MISCELLANEOUS
Istanbul is Turkey's most populous city as well as its cultural and financial hub. Located on
both sides of the Bosphorus narrow strait between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea,
Istanbul bridges Asia and and Europe both physically and culturally. Istanbul's population is
estimated to be between 12 and 19 million people, making it also one of the largest cities in
Europe and the world.
Expanding the ancient Roman colony of Byzantium by the order of the Roman Emperor
Constantine the Great, the imperial city of Constantinople was for nearly a thousand years
the last remaining outpost of the Roman (later termed Eastern Roman or Byzantine) Empire.
It was finally conquered by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II on 29 May 1453, an event
sometimes used to mark the end of the Middle Ages. It was the nerve centre for military
campaigns that were to enlarge the Ottoman Empire dramatically. By the mid 1500s,
Istanbul, with a population of almost half a million, was a major cultural, political, and
commercial centre. Ottoman rule continued until it was defeated in WWI and Istanbul was
occupied by the allies. When the Republic of Turkey was born in 1923 after the War of
Independence, Kemal Atatürk moved its capital to the city of Ankara. However, Istanbul
has continued to expand dramatically; today its population is approximately 14 million
and increases at an estimated 400,000 immigrants per year. Industry has expanded even
as tourism has grown.

September is the end of summer and start of autumn in Istanbul. At the start of the month,
temperatures are still high, it's likely to be hot and dry. But by the end, temperatures have
fallen rapidly, rainfall averages have risen, and it will feel much cooler.
The average temperature in Istanbul in September is 21C, with highs of 25C. The highest
temperature ever recorded in the area at this time is 35C. Overnight, the temperature drops
to around 16C; the lowest temperature ever recorded in the area at this time is 7C, at the end
of the month, but for the most part it's unlikely to get that cold. It's still quite warm and
pleasant in Istanbul at this time, if temperatures aren't quite as scorching as in preceding
months, like August and July.
