a privileged opportunity to participate in a great national endeavour. The success of every expedition
depends on its people, and you have been chosen as someone who will contribute positively by doing
your job well, looking after those around you and looking after yourself.
The remote location you are going to is hostile and dangerous. It will be both a workplace and a home for you. As in any small and
isolated community, respect and tolerance for each other is particularly important.
We expect you to look after your environment and put workplace health and safety first. Please report any incidents, improvements and
hazards you are aware of. Bring health and safety concerns and issues to the attention of someone who has the authority to deal with
the problem. Remember your families, friends and fellow expeditioners are depending on you to return safe and well.
Please read this handbook and any material to which it refers so that you understand all your important responsibilities.
Above all, have a wonderful, rewarding experience. You are a key part of delivering our world class Antarctic science and keeping
Antarctica protected, understood and valued. We really value your contribution. Work hard and participate in as many activities as you
can, keep your sense of humour and stay safe!
