Caring. Honesty. Respect. Responsibility. When I consider these core values of the YMCA, a fifth word springs to mind: community.
It’s what the Oswego YMCA is built on. With this idea, I’m thrilled to announce the annual Oswego, NY Dragon Boat Festival will
return on Friday, August 10th and Saturday, August 11th, 2018 in Oswego’s historic Breitbeck Park on the shores of Lake Ontario.
A fun summer event in the Port City, the Dragon Boat Festival will bring the community together for the 6th time this August.
Spectators can watch authentic 40-foot Hong Kong-style dragon boats as they race head-to-head in Oswego Harbor. This year’s
festival will feature nearly 20 teams competing in three different boat categories: community, corporate, and students. The festival
will kick-off on Friday evening with opening ceremonies, live music, games, a barbecue, and the Heroes Challenge.
Friday evening’s Heroes Challenge is a race between teams made up of our community heroes. Organizations such as local police
and fire departments, the New York State Police, US Coast Guard, and local EMS services will participate in this exciting and friendly
competition. Main event races between corporate, community and student teams will commence Saturday morning.
The Dragon Boat Festival is the Oswego YMCA’s largest fundraising event and provides funding for Y community programs that
serve people of all ages. This is a spectator friendly event highlighting Oswego’s parks and waterways while supporting family and
youth programming at your community Y.
However, none of this is possible without the dedicated participation of our wonderful community organizations, businesses, and
volunteers. Sponsorship and boat registration opportunities are available now and all proceeds from the event go toward supporting
YMCA programs that educate, rehabilitate and encourage positive health habits for all. One in nine people living in the Oswego
community is a member of the Oswego YMCA. And every single one of them thanks you for hitting the lake with us this August.

Terms & Conditions
Team boats must have 16-20 paddlers plus a drummer. Six paddlers must be female, in the boat, not including the drummer. All participants must be
at least 15 years of age on 8/11/18 to participate. All registration and sponsorship fees must be paid and included with submitted forms. For teams, this
includes a non-refundable deposit fee of $500. Remaining boat balances must be paid in FULL by 7/18/18. If registration fees have not been paid in
full, you will forfeit your boat.
