Y CAMP 2019

VEGAS MAY 28 THROUGH
STRONG! AUGUST 9
Why Y Camp?
What makes Y Camp stand out from other day camp programs
is its comprehensiveness. Y Camp keeps kids physically active
through games, sports, and pool time; creativity is sparked
and cognition is expanded through crafts, skits, camp songs,
literacy activities, and STEAM projects (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Art, Mathematics); and character is developed
through our Y Ties Initiative, conflict resolution skill building,
and by instilling the Y’s Core Values (Respect, Responsibility,
Honesty, and Caring) throughout the day. That’s just the tip of
the iceberg! Each week is a new and exciting adventure,
jam-packed with tons of fun activities that appeal to a wide
range of interests and abilities.

                                                                          Raising the B.A.R. in Camp!
At Y Camp, we’ve raised the “B.A.R.”! Your camper will feel
a sense of Belonging, where they are safe, respected,
and comfortable expressing their individuality; they will
feel a sense of Achievement as they develop new skills and
realize their passions and talents; and they will build
Relationships with their Y-Leaders and fellow campers that
inspire him or her to reach their full potential. These important
elements are interwoven throughout all camp activities and lay the
                                                                       foundation for everything we do.

YMCA
MISSION IN ACTION
    FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
We believe strong communities are possible only when we
invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors. This is done by
providing high-quality, affordable programming that is
accessible to all. Thanks to the generous support of donors, the
Y is able to ensure that no one is turned away due to
inability to pay – as long as funds and space are available. Visit a
Y or our website for more information about our Camp Financial
Assistance Program. Inquire early as it can take up to 10
business days for us to approve your application.

    PAY IT FORWARD
As a community-centered nonprofit organization, we encourage
children and adults of every age to give back. Ask about how to
volunteer, “pay it forward” by making a donation to the Y’s Annual
Campaign, or leave a family legacy by joining our Heritage Club.
Every contribution, no matter how small, has the power to
strengthen the community we all share.

    FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM
SUMMER | Meet Up To Eat Up
No child goes hungry at the YMCA! Each day, hundreds of children
across Southern Nevada are served a FREE, nutritious cold lunch
and afternoon snack through the Y’s Summer Food Service
Program. Should your camper prefer to pack their own lunch
and/or afternoon snack, they can place the free food on our sharing
table for other campers to enjoy.

In accordance with Federal Law and US Department of Agriculture
Policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis
of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.

Note: The Summer Food Service Program is not offered at the
Centennial Hills YMCA.

Y CAMP 2019

VEGAS STRONG!
    CAMP THEME
Calling all heroes! We need your help! Many years ago, the evil Titan traveled the eleven realms and destroyed
entire planets to steal the legendary Character Stones. With all eleven Character Stones, Titan would wield the
power to spread despair across the universe. Fortunately, brave lifeforms from each realm banded together to
form the Y-Vengers in the battle against Titan. The Y-Vengers used their superpowers to weaken Titan to the
point of retreat and took back the Character Stones. However, the battle all but depleted their superpowers -
so each of them was tasked with returning home with their realm’s Character Stone to train the next
generation of Y-Vengers in anticipation of Titan’s return.

Campers will spend one week in each of the eleven realms, absorbing that realm’s Character Stone and
developing the superpower from that realm’s Y-Venger. Be careful, though, because Titan and his loyal minions
are lurking in the shadows waiting for their chance to take back the Character Stones. Do you have what it
    takes to protect the universe?
TRADITIONAL DAY CAMP | AGES 5-15
Traditional Camp is so much more than just a place to go when school’s out for the summer. At Y Camp,
campers have fun, develop skills, and gain confidence through games, swimming, sports, crafts, Fun Friday
assemblies, character development, and so much more. During the summer, children lose up to 30% of
knowledge gained during the school year. Therefore, we incorporate fun reading and science activities to
combat summer slide and advance your child’s learning.

            CAMP AGE GROUPS
The YMCA of Southern Nevada offers the following traditional camps all summer long, Monday - Friday from
7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Camp is closed on July 4th in observance of Independence Day. Campers are divided into
smaller groups based on their age, so that they are paired with similarly-aged peers and can enjoy
developmentally appropriate activities. Each Y may group campers differently and reserves the right to regroup
campers as needed. Campers must meet the group’s age requirements by the camp start date. Please speak
with the Camp Director if you have a special request in this regard.

    *LEADERS-IN-TRAINING (L.I.T.) | AGES 12-15
Our Leaders-In-Training Camp is specifically designed for teens! In addition to many of the Traditional Camp
activities, L.I.T.’s partake in a variety of unique experiences that include fun community service projects,
special guest speakers, creating our weekly camp newsletter, becoming Heroes, and more!

BECOME A HERO | Y TEENS GIVE BACK!
The Become a Hero Initiative is designed to offer our Leaders-In-Training with opportunities to strengthen
their leadership skills while gaining volunteer experience and possibly school community service credits
(inquire about this at your child’s school). This initiative allows L.I.T. Campers to work alongside positive role
models as they lead activities with younger campers, serve on the lunch prep team, and are guided through
a series of volunteer exercises within their Y.

   SPECIALTY CAMPS | AGES 5-15 *
Many campers just can’t get enough of the fun, so we provide even more ways for them to make this the
best summer ever! Specialty Camps provide two to four hours per day (M-TH) of heart-pounding, hair-raising,
creative fun. Check out the Camp Guide for offerings. Specialty Campers are pulled from their Traditional Camp
group for special activities, before rejoining their Traditional Camp group for the remainder of the day (Traditional
Camp is included in the Specialty Camp price). All Specialty Campers must be signed-in by 8:00 AM. On-Site
Specialty Camps run from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday–Thursday. These campers spend the rest of the day with
   their Traditional Camp group.

Off-Site Specialty Campers will leave their Traditional Camp friends at 11:30 AM, Monday-Thursday, to join their
Specialty Camp group in preparation for afternoon travel. They will return to the Y around 3:30 PM to rejoin their
Traditional Camp group. Please note that traffic sometimes delays a prompt return to the Y. We advise parents to
pick-up their Off-Site Specialty Camper after 4:00 PM.

*5 year olds are not allowed on off-site specialty camps

A HERO’S TYPICAL DAY
Please note that the following is a sampling of a typical day at Y Camp. Activity schedules vary by branch, age group,
and day of the week.

7:00 AM – ENTER THE REALM
Enter the realm by selecting from a variety of challenge stations to awaken the hero within you. These include group
games, board games, crafts, wall ball, literacy, and the like.

8:00 AM – SUIT UP
Let’s suit up for the great adventure that lies before us. We’ll first start by learning about the week’s Character Stone
before getting our minds and bodies ready for the day with camp songs and in-place exercises.

9:00 AM – Y’VENGERS ASSEMBLE
Y’Vengers assemble! It’s time to break into our hero groups to refuel with a healthy snack and participate in morning roll
call. We’ll then develop superpowers like strength, agility, and speed through activities like group games, teambuilding
exercises, sports, arts & humanities, STEAM projects, literacy, park time, and so much more.

11:30 AM – POWER UP
Time to power up with a healthy lunch before cooling off in the pool. Some heroes will choose a different path and stay
on dry land while participating in alternate activities.

1:00 PM – CALLING ALL HEROES
Calling all heroes! There’s plenty more adventure ahead with tons of activities that will help us develop this week’s su-
perpower. Careful, though, because the evil Titan and his minions are lurking about, waiting for the opportunity to steal
back this week’s Character Stone.

4:00 PM – CAMPFIRE
We did it! We protected the Character Stone so the realm is safe for another day. Let’s wind down by chatting with our
friends about our day’s achievements over a healthy snack. We’ll then have a variety of challenge stations to choose from
to keep our skills sharp. You never know when Titan will be back…

6:00 PM – SUNSET
Rest up, heroes! Another fun-filled adventure is just around the corner.

                                                                                                                      8
