historic Tower of London. Explore 1000 years of history at
London’s iconic castle and World Heritage Site. See the Crown
Jewels, take a legendary Yeoman Warder tour and meet the ravens.
The Tower of London was built as a secure fortress and a symbol of
royal power. Behind the castle’s walls were storehouses for weapons
and the Royal Mint produced the nation’s coins. It was also a royal
palace with luxuriously furnished apartments and a menagerie of royal beasts. But the
Tower was also used to contain people who posed a serious threat to national security.
Despite its fearsome reputation the story of imprisonment at Tower is not just one of
traitors and gruesome executions. It is also a tale of luxury, banquets and daring
escapes. Many prisoners did not end their lives there but were released after paying a
ransom or when they no longer posed a threat to security. Like the story of the Tower
itself, its role as a prison is a varied one.

When VE Day dawns on 8th May 2020, it will be 75 years since the guns
fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. All over Britain, people took to
the streets to celebrate the ending of the years of carnage and destruction.
It was a time to remember the past and mourn for lost lives, but also a
chance to live in hope for the future. The Nene Valley Railway will be
commemorating VE Day on Friday 8th May, 2020 - this date has been
declared a bank holiday by the Government. Wansford Station will be celebrating with

encouraged to dress up in their best 1940’s outfits and bring their dancing shoes to take

  Fruit Farm; 9th June (Or) | 16th June (Gr) | 23rd June (Pu) |
30th June (Bl); Price: £55 per person | JDO Members: £49.50 pp
A new tour for Just Days Out visiting Whitstable and Brogdale
Fruit Farm. In the words of David Essex “I first visited this north
Kent town in 2010, fell in love with it and bought a flat there
overlooking the sea. It has a working harbour, which I find
fascinating, with small independent shops, twisting little side
streets with quaint names like Squeeze Gut Alley, and of course,
the sea.” You’ll have time to walk around this Bohemian seaside
resort and enjoy lunch in the best Fish & Chip shop in town (according to our well
known coach driver Mike). In the afternoon we travel to the home
of Kentish fruit Brogdale, the home of the National Fruit
Collection. Discover the largest collection of fruit in the world!
During the month of June expect to see soft fruits like
Blackcurrants, Strawberries and Cherries. There are shops, a
restaurant, a plant centre, a fruit shop and an award-winning
butcher. We’ll include a guided tractor trailer tour around the
farm, then you can explore at your leisure.

parkland. Tyntesfield, just a stone’s throw away from
Bristol, was not built as a bold and extravagant
statement of wealth, power or politics. Its purpose was
simple; to serve as a family home. Once hidden and
inaccessible, the ordinary and extraordinary lives and
possessions of four generations of the Gibbs family are
                                                    ready for discovery.
The garden and estate balance faded beauty and function with an abundance of nature;
celebrated in ornate Gothic carvings that decorate the house. We will be having lunch at
                                      Tyntesfield.

Mark the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain at the UK's Commemorative Show.
Be part of the 80th anniversary Battle of Britain Air Show at IWM Duxford - the historic
home of the Spitfire and the men and women who lived, served
and fought during Summer 1940.Witness the now-
famous Duxford Spitfire Flypast, a sight of pure emotion,
reflection and pride. You’ll be standing where the ‘Few’ of 19
Squadron and pilots from across the world stood, as they took off
from RAF Duxford to defend the skies of Britain. This popular
special event marking the men, women and aircraft whose history
is entwined with summer 1940 will be even more poignant in 2020 as we mark the 80th
anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Tickets are likely to be popular, so book early to
                                   avoid disappointment.
