Meal Program Information and FAQ 2020-2021

In school year 2020-2021 we will continue to participate in the USDA Special Milk program and
provide 1 combo meal deal breakfast and/or 1 combo meal deal lunch daily, at no charge, to free
eligible students and at a reduced rate to reduced eligible students.

We will carry over 2019-20 school year's (last years’) student eligibility status until expiration
on September 14, 2020.

A new Special Milk/Meals Program application must be submitted annually.

We will be processing all Meal Program Applications through the Infinite Campus (IC) Parent
Portal (FRAM). Please apply for meals online through the Parent Portal. (Note parents must set
up E-signature to submit - Applications E-signed by students will not be accepted).

Meals are served every school day. For the 2020-21 school year, breakfast is available at all
schools for $2.00 and lunch is $3.00/$3.25/$3.50. Reduced breakfast is $1.00 and reduced lunch is
$2.00. Milk (½ pint) is included with the meal, but may also be purchased separately for $.60. A
variety of healthy and student favorite a la carte options are available.

We will continue to receive Direct Certification files from the DHS. Each student receiving
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and/or Temporary Assistance to Needy
Families (TANF) from the DHS will be mailed a letter of eligibility for free meals at the end of July
from District 214. If you receive one of these letters, you do not need to fill out a Special

iPad FAQs:

1. What are the rules for iPad use in the classroom?
The “top ten rules” for classroom iPad use are listed on the following page.

2. I do not have internet access at home, how can my son/daughter complete homework?
*School is open at 7:15 am and there is tutoring available after school on specific days and wi-fi is
available at this time.
*Free wi-fi is available at many local establishments, including the public library.
* We now have a partnership program between D214 and Sprint for low-income families who
need internet access. Applications are available in Student Services.

 3. What are the common apps/websites that my child will be using?
This is very teacher/course specific, however, some commonly used apps/websites in the
classroom include:
Evernote, Notability, Schoology, Moodle, Safari, YouTube, Puffin (for use when a website uses
Adobe Flash - some textbooks require this), and Infinite Campus. Teachers will provide more
specific websites and apps during the first week of school and at Open House.

4. How can I control how much my child is playing games or using social media on their
iPad?
Parents set the rules in your own home. Some parents have found it helpful to designate a
specific space in the house where the iPad is permitted to be used. Others have set passwords
on their wi-fi and only enter the code when students need access for school reasons. We also
encourage conversation about time management, distractions, and managing life in a connected
society.

5. Why do we give complete access to the iPads?
One of our goals is to prepare students to make good decisions and successfully manage living in
a connected world. Guidance at school and at home can prepare them for life’s challenges.
Instead of taking the approach that we filter and restrict their access, we are striving to help them
make educated, informed decisions about their digital footprint.

6. What happens if my child breaks his/her iPad?
The ipad protection plan is included in the registration fees.
