Tamer Fahmi, Chair
Tamer Fahmi was elected to RECO’s Board of Directors in 2019. Tamer was previously on
RECO’s Board of Directors from 2008-2011. Tamer was first registered in 1976 and Broker
since 1987. Incorporated Hearth & Home Realty Inc. in 1989 and since 2016 operating as
Keller Williams Edge Hearth & Home Realty and is the Broker of Record for the firm. He
has served as Director (1990-1996) and President (1995) of the REALTORS® Association
of Hamilton-Burlington (RAHB). During his tenure at RAHB, he served as Chair of the
Burlington Division along with many committees and task forces including Finance/Audit,
MLS®, Education and Governance. With RAHB, Tamer is an Honorary Life Member (2009),
Recipient of Long Service Award (40 Years) (2017), Award of Merit Recipient (2008) and
is a Member of the Regional Commercial Council. Tamer served as Director (2001-2006)
on the Ontario Real Estate Association Board (OREA), President in 2005, Governance
Committee from 2010-2012, and chaired their Broker Viability Task Force from 2007-
2009. Tamer is an Inducted Fellow of the REALTORS® Care Foundation (2005) and
Honorary Life member recipient of the Ontario Real Estate Association in 2007. Tamer
served as a Task force member 2004-2005 on Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA)
and assisted in developing the REALTORS® Code of Ethics and Standards of Business
Practice. In his local community served as Director and Chair of the Chamber of
Commerce, Director and Chair of Tourism Burlington, Board member of the Burlington
Downtown Business Association board, Former Member of the United Way cabinet.

Steve Boxma, Vice-Chair
Steve Boxma was elected Vice-Chair of RECO’s Board of Directors in May 2019. Steve
was first elected to RECO’s Board of Directors in 2014 and has served as a member
of the Audit & Risk, Finance and Governance Committees in addition to being chair
of the Insurance Committee. Steve also served on the Registrar’s Education Advisory
Committee. Steve has been a member of the Ottawa Real Estate Board since 2004 and
has been a registered broker since 2008. He is currently a broker for Royal LePage Team
Realty Inc., Brokerage in Ottawa. Steve believes that having a strong sense of community
makes for a better place to live. He is very active in his brokerage’s charitable foundation
and is involved with his branch’s community relations committee.

Rui Alves
Rui Alves was first elected to RECO’s Board of Directors in 2019. Rui began his real estate
career in 1981 and has owned and operated a brokerage since 1986. The brokerage
operated under a national franchise brand from 1989 to 2009 and currently operates
as an independent brand brokerage with nearly 1700 salespeople and over 12 locations.
He has earned three REIC designations, FRI, CMR, CRES. From the moment he began
his real estate career he has been active in organized real estate, serving on as well
as chairing, many committees and task forces, including bylaws, finance, discipline,
arbitration, and professional standards and CREA Code of Ethics Task Force. He is past
president of the Brampton Estate Board, and the Hurontario Chapter of the Real Estate
Institute of Canada. Most recently he has served on RECO’s Discipline and Appeals
Committees, and the OREA REBBA Review Task Force. He has also been active in the local
community serving as a volunteer Police Constable with Peel Regional Police from 1995
to 2005 and many charity fundraising events. Rui has also been honoured with committee
and community service awards from BREB, TREB and OREA.

Michael Appleton
Michael Appleton was first elected to RECO’s Board of Directors in 2012 and has served as
a member of the Director Development, Finance, Governance and Insurance Committees,
in addition to serving as chair of the Audit & Risk Committee. He has distinguished himself
as the top real estate trainer across Canada with three major real estate corporations.
His list of clientèle reads like a Who's Who of real estate, including: Royal LePage,
Re/Max, HomeLife, Century 21, Coldwell Banker and the Toronto Real Estate Board.
Michael has empowered thousands of realtors across the country for the last twenty
years. The author of Dialogues To Success, he is the only person in the history of
Canadian real estate to win the Real Estate Institute of Canada's Morguard Literary
Award for four years (2000, 2001, 2004 & 2005). In his spare time Michael enjoys
creative writing, film studies and theatre.

Glenda Brindle
Glenda Brindle was elected Chair of RECO’s Board of Directors in May 2019. Glenda was
first elected to RECO’s Board of Directors in 2006 and completed three consecutive terms.
Glenda was re-elected to RECO’s Board of Directors in 2018. During Glenda’s first terms,
she served as Chair of the Board of Directors for three years. She also served as a
member of various committees, in addition to being chair of the Governance and
Insurance Committees. Glenda became registered 30 years ago (1988). In 2005,
became a broker and then became a manager for Royal LePage Team Realty, Brokerage.
Glenda has been an award-winning REALTOR® and received the lifetime Award of
Excellence from Royal LePage. In 1998, she was called to the Ottawa Real Estate Board
(OREB) as a committee member and from there became President of OREB in 2004.

Glenda then went on to serve on committees and task forces with the Canadian Real
Estate Association and Ontario Real Estate Association. She currently sits on a committee
for St. Joe’s Women’s Day Shelter in Ottawa, helping to raise funds and organize fund
raisers. In 2017, Glenda was appointed by the Minister of Government and Consumer
Services as a Director of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario.

Janet Cloud
Janet Cloud joined the RECO Board of Directors as a government appointee in December
2020. Janet is an accomplished senior technology and operations executive with global
experience in medium to large companies. She was VP Operations & Technology and a
board director at Advantage Group International, where she delivered digital products
world-wide. She spent 10 years as EVP at TNS Canada/TNS U.S. (TNS Global) running
Operations, Technology and transformational cross-border initiatives. With broad
experience in banking, securities, consulting, B2B relationship management, market
research, technology and digital products, Janet has transformed global organizations
by inspiring high-performance teams executing digital innovation. Janet has more than
15 years’ experience on government, corporate, healthcare and charitable boards.
She volunteers as a tutor with the “Beat the Street” program at Frontier College and
also volunteers her time to consult with non-profit agencies on their digital strategy
and risk management.

Janet attained a BSc in Biology and an MBA in Operational Research and Management
Information Systems from McGill University. She holds the internationally recognized
Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation. She has also obtained her ICD.D
designation from the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto.

Frank Dattilo
Frank Dattilo was elected to RECO’s Board of Directors in 2018. Frank graduated from
University of Windsor in 1972, got his Real Estate registration in 1973, and his Broker’s
registration in 1977. He also took the General Insurance program in 1981. During his
career he wore many hats; taught at St Clair College for 15 years, ran various
construction and development companies: Monsada, Soncorp, Hamilton One Jarvis,
and Oscar Construction. He launched three real estate companies; Rosewind Realty,
RE/MAX Signature Realty, and now Dattilo Realty. His personal achievements include:

•   Royal College of Dental Surgeons - Discipline & Education Committees
•   Fulton Shean Charitable Foundation - Chairman (USA)
•   Detroit College of Law- International Journal

Now semi-retired and looks to being on the Board of RECO as a new challenge where he
can contribute his expertise.

Tim Lee
Tim Lee was first elected to RECO’s Board of Directors in 2019. He first served with
RECO’s Discipline & Appeals Committees from 2000-2005. He has served as President
of the Ontario Real Estate Association (2006-7) and served in senior leadership positions
until 2012. Tim has also served on a number of RECO/OREA Liaison Committees over the
years. Tim also developed the original curriculum for leadership training within organized
real estate and has taught Leadership Courses for the Ontario Real Estate Association.
Tim was President of the Ottawa Real Estate Board (2013) and the Rideau St. Lawrence
Real Estate Board (1996). He is an avid golfer, curler and private pilot and is the
Immediate Past President of the Smiths Falls Flying Club. Tim has extensive real estate
sales experience and serves both residential and commercial customers in a smaller rural
community serving a population of about 30,000. He is past owner of a medium sized real
estate brokerage and is also a partner in the Perth Golf Course.

John McCharles
John McCharles joined RECO’s Board of Directors as a government appointee in August
2019. He had been a registered real estate salesperson beginning in 1978, later becoming
a Broker, specializing in residential, commercial and agricultural real estate in and around
Lambton County. John has achieved many real estate awards including the prestigious
RE/MAX Lifetime Achievement Award. John was also presented with the Queen's Jubilee
Award for his work in municipal governance. He spent almost 40 years in municipal
politics, most recently, 12 years as Mayor of Petrolia. His experience in all aspects of the
management of a municipality and real estate marketing provides him with a wealth of
knowledge. Prior to and during his career in real estate he was a licenced funeral director
and EMS attendant in the ambulance service industry. John was also the owner/operator
of a number of small businesses including an ambulance service and a construction
company. He has continuously strived to improve the quality of life for his community.

Phillip Richardson
Phillip J. Richardson joined RECO’s Board of Directors as a government appointee
in August 2019. He is an experienced Canadian property executive with significant
commercial real estate development and operations experience both domestically and
internationally. He has held various senior positions in development companies over the
past thirty-five years in Canada and abroad. He led the development and delivery of the
five million square foot Ferrari World and Yes Mall in Abu Dhabi, UAE and the two million
square foot Wong Tee Plaza in downtown Shenzhen, China, as well as five hundred
thousand square foot Northgate Square Shopping Centre in North Bay, Ontario and
five hundred thousand square foot New Sudbury Centre in Sudbury, Ontario.

Upon his return from working in China, he served as Senior Vice President, Retail &
Investments for DTZ Inc., an international real estate advisory and broker, during which
time Mr. Richardson was a registered sales agent for that company. Having subsequently
established himself as a property developer, he de-registered as a sales agent. His
extensive knowledge in the real estate field and experience with buying and selling real
estate for his own account as well as for others, provides him with a unique perspective
of the Real Estate Council of Ontario’s regulatory role.

David Schooley
David Schooley was first elected to the RECO Board of Directors in 2020. He serves on
the Governance, People and Culture Committee and the Strategy and Organizational
Performance Committee.

Known in Waterloo Region as the candid Broker behind the “Ask David…” real estate
column, his frank advice appears weekly in several Metroland publications. A community-
builder at heart, David has spent over a decade hosting “Stuff the Hummer” fundraising
events that rally clients and guests together in support of numerous local charities.
To date, he has raised over 200,000 emergency meals for the Food Bank of Waterloo
Region. David is a proud sponsor and raving fan of the KW Titans NBLC basketball team
and an avid supporter of RE/MAX campaigns for the Children’s Miracle Network, the
Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Children’s Health Foundation – which
awarded him Top RE/MAX Fundraising Agent two of the last three years. David’s diverse
career outside of real estate has encompassed the aviation, automotive, manufacturing
and retail sectors. He is an active member of the Optimist Club, the Royal Canadian
Air Cadets 80 Squadron Sponsorship Committee and the Kitchener Sports Association.
In his free time, you will find him hanging out with his 2 teenage kids and his incredible
wife, Kate.

Katie Steinfeld
Katie Steinfeld was first elected to RECO's Board of Directors in 2020 and serves on
the Governance, People and Culture Committee and the Strategy and Organizational
Performance Committee.

Katie holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Degree with the Schulich School
of Business with a specialization in marketing. Katie began her real estate career in 2010
and has owned and operated a brokerage since 2017. The brokerage operates as an
independent boutique brokerage in the city of Vaughan and Katie serves as co-founder
and Broker of Record. Katie has served on various committees within the real estate
industry including the Consumer Relations Committee with the Toronto Regional Real
Estate Board along with the Arbitration and Appeals Committee with RECO. Katie believes
that a more collaborative, engaged and proactive industry will help real estate

professionals meet and exceed their career goals as well as serve their clients as best as
possible. As such, she offers a weekly podcast and monthly webinars dedicated to keeping
her colleagues motivated and inspired to push for better.
