ABOUT CAA
The Companion Animal Alliance is a nonprofit organization that has been
managing the East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Shelter since August of 2011.
In just seven years, the number of animals saved at the shelter has increased from
only 20% to more than 75%. Last year alone, 662 lost pets were returned with their
families and almost 5000 animals found their forever homes through adoptions and our
placement partners.
Our goal is to save every animal we can. We believe it’s attainable, and we
continue day by day to implement strategies that are putting this goal within reach.
We sterilized over 1650 community cats at no charge to the public. Our Pets for
Life program offers education and much needed medical services (including spay/
neuter) in targeted, low-income zip codes, helped over 200 families and 349 pets.
And, for the first time in the history of the shelter, we are seeing results from these
community programs with decreasing numbers of animals entering the shelter.
Here’s even more exciting news! We opened our doors to our new animal shelter
located on the LSU Campus, the first of its kind being located on a college campus. Our
new locaton makes it easier and more convenient for the people of our parish to find
the pets they want to welcome into their families.
We believe we are off to a good start. CAA looks forward to becoming a nationally
recognized animal shelter of which the
Baton Rouge community can be proud.

SUCCESS STORIES
Two-month old Beetlejuice arrived at the shelter
with two broken legs after being hit by a car
and abandoned on the side of the road. Thanks
to the expert medical care of CAA’s veterinary
team and the loving attention of his foster family,
Beetlejuice was able to keep both of his legs
and make a full recovery after two months. A few
weeks later, Beetlejuice was adopted by a family
with another CAA dog. Beetlejuice (now Ace)
is now enjoying his forever home alongside his
CAA sibling.
People always ask us why microchips are so important. Now we can say
Bell is why they are important.
Bell went missing after her owners moved to the area from out of state. In the
transition Bell accidentally got out of her new home and they couldn’t find her
anywhere. After months of searching and searching for her they thought they
would never see her again.
Fast forward 3 years later (yes, THREE years) a dog came to CAA as a stray.
We scanned for the microchip and heard the beep that all shelter workers
love to hear.
We were able to call Bell’s owners and let them know we had her. Bell’s mom
(who now has moved) was able to drive back to Baton Rouge to get her girl.
When her mom walked up to her kennel Bell immediately knew she was
finally going back home. After tears from her mom and lots of jumping and
kisses from Bell we were able to reunite this family.

In seven years, Fur Ball has raised over half a million dollars for
Companion Animal Alliance, the animal shelter in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Fur Ball is Companion Animal Alliance’s major fundraiser,
and the first event of this kind in Baton Rouge.

EBR animal shelter to reduce animal euthanasia and find permanent homes for dogs and cats.
