    SUITABILITY
› 212 Kew Gardens will be best suited to a childless couple. The apartment does not have a bath, and very few children live in the
    building
› Kew Gardens has a no-dogs policy, even though a few apartment owners do keep dogs. Several cats live in the building. However,
the lease for 212 Kew Gardens will stipulate that no pets are allowed in the apartment
› Sorry, smoking inside the apartment is not allowed. But, if you must, wander out onto the balcony
› If you’re a walker or runner, this is paradise. You can be running along the coast to Camp’s Bay or Green Point in three minutes,
or you can be on the walking trails on Signal Hill and Lion’s Head in 15 minutes. The owners currently store four bicycles on the
balcony (and there’s still more than enough space for the gas braai)
› If you dislike getting into a car to go shopping, you’ll love this part of Sea Point. Directly across the road from Kew Gardens you’ll
find Woolworth’s Food, vida e caffè, PostNet, SuperSpar, Checkers, a DVD rental shop, a Pilates class, a great souvlaki spot, the best
martini in Cape Town a 10-minute walk away, and many more

lounge and dining areas
IN the mornings, sunlight streams into the lounge-and-dining area, which opens onto the apartment’s balcony through
two large fold-open doors. The owners kept these doors open day and night until the end of March this year. The balcony
overlooks a large communal garden, and, because Kew Gardens is not surrounded by tall buildings, the apartment feels
spacious and light, even in the heart of winter.

                                                                                              KEY INFORMATION:

THE kitchen has a great view over the trees that surround the garden, and the direct connection with the living areas makes
it one of the best spaces in the apartment.

                                                                                                                              7

storage cupboard

A FORMER linen cupboard was transformed into a spacious storage space
that now houses anything from crockery and glasses to groceries. Light from a
downlighter penetrates the six glass-and-wood shelves.

scullery-laundry
ONE of the best decisions taken during the renovation process was to transform the original
bathroom into a scullery-laundry. Two sinks are fitted to a Han stone top, served by a rather
dramatic but very functional Isca professional kitchen mixer. The space can accommodate a
dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, and provides ample storage.

                                                                                                9

guest toilet
BETWEEN the kitchen and scullery-laundry is a second toilet (called a guest
toilet for lack of a better description) with a sliding door. The tiny basin has a
dark-grey mosaic glass tile splashback and Hansgrohe mixer.

shower room
THE shower room is without doubt the owners’ favourite space in the
apartment. It was designed with the idea of a wet room in mind so that even
the most extravagant shaver or shower user would not have to worry about
where water splashes. The shower room has two windows, fitted with frosted
glass, that open onto a large service well. The room’s door is a white wood
frame with a large frosted-glass panel.

                                                                                     11
