        OVERVIEW OF MANICURE AND PEDICURE
                    SERVICES
Gearing up to take a break, winding down from a long week, or planning for
a wedding can be relaxing when you’re at a salon having a manicure and a pedicure.
Salon technicians have the best equipment and know the best techniques to make
hands and feet smooth and elegant. Where did they learn these methods? The
history of manicures and pedicures date back to premodern times and are still
useful today.

A pedicure is done to regenerate tired and worn feet. The history of pedicures
originated in ancient Egypt. The carving shown was made by an Egyptian official
who displays a depiction of people getting manicure and pedicure. The word
pedicure comes from the Latin words “pes,” which means foot, and “cura,” which
means care.

A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the hands and fingernails
performed at home or in a salon. The English word manicure comes from the Latin
words “manus”, for hand, and “cura” for care.
History of Manicure

1. The Ancient Babylonian’s Good as Gold Manicure (3500
B.C. – 1781 B.C.). Kohl was used by Ancient Babylonian
men to manicure and color their nails. The colors of the
nails represent different classes. The upper class wore
black while the lower class wore green manicure. They
made the best and the most expensive collection of
manicure set in the world which was made of solid gold.

2. The Ancient Egyptian’s Scarlet Manicure (1300 B.C. – 1ST
Century B.C.). Pioneers of all things opulent Cleopatra
and Queen Nefertiti, popularized the manicure by
rubbing their hands in rich oils using henna. Wealth
and status are characterized by the color, the bolder the
color the more powerful you are.

                                                                 https://www.marieclaire.com/

3. Ming-Dynasty’s Manicure (1364 – 1644). Both male and
female members of Ming-Dynasty had perfectly
manicured nails. They mixed together egg whites, wax,
vegetable dyes and other materials to produce different
colors / tints to their nails ranging from dark red to
   black.

                                                                  https://www.marieclaire.com/

4. The Roaring 1920’s and 1930’s Manicure. Women start
to color their nails using high-gloss car paint. Revlon
launched a groundbreaking polish that used pigments
instead of dyes and was available at the drugstores.
Half-moon technique and French Manicure were
   introduced during this time.

                                                                https://www.marieclaire.com/
5. The Saucy 1940’s and 1950’s Manicure. Average women
began to paint their nails at home in the 1940’s. They
also visited nail salon for manicures and newly minted
acrylic nails. Pointed nails with bright nail tint were the
   trend.

                                                                 https://www.marieclaire.com/

6. The Mellow 1960’s and 1970’s Manicure. The revival of
French Manicure happened in 1975 thru Jeff Pink,
founder of ORLY, creators of professional nail color and
treatments. He used it as a practical nail style for
   Parisian runways.

                                                                     https://www.today.com/

7. The More- is- More 1980’s and 1990’s Manicure. Since
there were more experimentations with colors, prints,
textures and embellishment, nail art was born in the
80’s. Nails were filed into a square rather than the
traditional almond shape. In the 90’s, men and women
began to paint their nails in dark such as deep purple
     and black.

                                                                   https://www.pinterest.ph/

8. The Endless Possibilities of 2000’s Manicure. The last
decade brought forth all manner of developments in
manicure, as well as devoted nail art salons and artists.
The manicure possibilities are endless with polish
available in nearly every color and technology, such as
nail appliques and semi-permanent gel varnishing.

                                                                   https://www.pinterest.ph/

Today, men have also become highly interested in their physical appearance.
Like women, they visit a salon to avail manicure services. There are different types
of manicure applicable to men and women.
Types of Manicure

1. Long Manicure. This is a standard manicure
that includes hand, arm and finger massage.
